What is free at Atlantis?

Going to Nassau at the end of the month with another family. Would love to take the ferry over to Atlantis just for the experience. Looking for some great pictures and memories for my teenage children. Where does the ferry let you off in relation to Atlantis? How far of a walk and how much is there to see and do free of charge once over there?

The Ferry is $3 and lets you off about a block from the marina Village, which is free. The lobby is free, the casino is free, the high end shoppes are free but nothing else.

You can view a part of the aquarium from the great hall of waters restaurant in the Coral towers, but to see the full aquarium and DIGS will cost $29pp.

Honestly, it's really just a tease for kids, who will be watching all the other kids at the waterpark enjoying their day.. and they can't participate.

For $115 pp, the atlantis SOMETIMES offers day passes to the pools and aquapark. But only when they are at low capacity. Which is unlikely unless you go off season.

Not worried about teasing the kids. They know we are just going over to see the sights. (Mature) What is in the Marina Village? Just looking for beautiful sights and interesting things to remember. We only have the day and want my kids to see as much as possible.

Though Atlantis may be very interesting.. it's certainly doesn't reflect the bahamas. You would be checking out a Las Vegas style hotel. Not what I would consider interesting on a cruise to the islands.

Marina village is a set of upscale restuarants with upscale trendy rodeo drive shops. Not very bahamian.

If you want to see the bahamas.. try the historic tour, or check out the forts, pirate museum or even the zoo.

You can find what you see at Atlantis in any major city in the states..

Atlantis is a knockoff of a Vegas resort.

No feel for the local culture at all. (like Scubagirl said, you can go to a fancy resort in many US or Canadian cities and have a similar experience)

If your kids have ever visited Vegas or will someday, they won't miss much at Atlantis.

We did Atlantis as a fall back, to kill an evening on our last cruise. (since we were docked for 24 hours)

It is very nice and clean in a Disney/Vegas sort of way.

Personally I would take your kids to see the Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle (with it's amazing views of the Island and Atlantis) at the top of the Staircase.

Take them by Governent House. (the big pink mansion on the hill to your right when you dock)

Then go hit Cable Beach for the day.

Haven't been there yet, but many enjoy Adastra Gardens.

Hope whatever you decide, your Family enjoys Nassau as much as we have both trips there.

Thanks bguppies,

That's exactly what we had planned to do. Get off the ship and do a self guided walking tour maybe catch a jitney and see some of the town. Try to spend the day at Cable Beach. Would like to find some hole in the wall to try conch fritters. Can't go home with out trying those.

I was basically wanting to go over to Atlantis later in the day just to say we saw it. Something extra for the kids to see and take pictures of. They are big into the whole digital thing.

If you are in town late enough, the Digs Aquarium at Atlantis is free (versus the $29 per person during the day) after the guards leave for the evening.

In January we went over after dinner on the ship and got there about 6:30PM or so and the guards had already left.

The aquarium was intresting for free, but I wouldn't say it was worth $29, for sure.

Check out this awesome thread for a Walking tour that has great pictures of the various stops...

I'm sure if you do a search on this board for conch fritters, you can easily find one of Scubagirl's recommendations for some good ones.
