Safes in Cabins?

The safes in the cabin have always worked nicely for us and I trust having my items in there. They are electronic and you establish the personal code used to open them. (Although on Carnival lately their safes required you swipe one of your own credit cards to open and close the safe.) Either way they store a decent amount - we have left cell phones, jewelry, wallets, small cameras and mp3 players (iPod) in them at one time. It has done the trick for us.

As for on excursions - generally I carry a beach bag with zipper pocket everywhere I go. Valuables are stored in the bag (pocket or burried below clothes and other items.) The tour operators are generally very trustworthy in my experience and we have never had an issue. That being said I also would look through my bag (if I left my stuff on a vessle where I wasn't there 100% of the time) and do a spot check to make sure everything is still in my bag before the end of the excursion. Can't be too careful but these vendors rely on good word of mouth and publicity - it just isn't worth it to them to get a bad reputation!

Enjoy your trip!

You took the words right out of my mouth. I've been on 5 cruises and about 10 snorkeling excursions and never have had a problem.

We use the stateroom safes and have had nothing but success using them. The ones we have used require a credit card type of card to open them; but let me emphasize that you need to use an old grocery store card, an old casino card, or something along that line.......NOT your current credit card. Hope I don't sound too snooty about this; but for your sake.....use an old card that you use on something else unimportant......just as long as it has that magnetic strip (or whatever you call it) on it.

JudyKa--Thanks for the tip on the grocery store card, I didn't realize they would work, I've always just "hidden" my credit card in the cabin somewhere that my sis and I agree on because we're not always together when one of us needs in the safe
