SheilaNC Posted June 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2007 Hi, Getting serious about planning our shore excursions for our down under cruises next February. We were thinking of doing a 1/2 day tour to Mt. Wellington followed by doing some walking and sightseeing on our own in Hobart in the afternoon. Would love to hear if anyone has done something similar OR of any excursions from Hobart that you really loved. Thanks for your help.:)
mochuck Posted June 11, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2007 If you like chocolate try the Cadburys factory tour. http://www.cadbury.com.au/sites/cadbury/index.php?pageId=55 We spent a couple of days in Hobart in Oct 2005. We started off the day with the Cadbury's tour, then we did the Cascade Brewery tour (very interesting and 4 free beers). There's also a cafe there, so you can have lunch as well. http://www.cascadebrewery.com.au/visitor.html We rounded the day off with the historic pubs walking tour. We learnt a lot about the early history of Hobart (with some juicy gossip) and had a couple of drinks. We stayed and had dinner at the last pub. http://www.hobarthistorictours.com.au/index.html Somewhere in there, I think between the Cadbury's and Cascade tour, we drove to the top of Mt Wellington. We were only up there for about half an hour. Its very cold and the weather can change very quickly. It was clear as a bell when we started driving up, by the time we got to the top it had closed in and you couldn't see a thing. It cleared again quite quickly for a spectacular view of Hobart and it surrounds.
mochuck Posted June 11, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2007 Lest I sound like an alcoholic, the 4 free beers at Cascade were tastings (so very small).;)
traveler525 Posted June 11, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2007 We were in Hobart on the Sapphire in January - did an independent tour just four of us. Hit Mt Wellington first thing - beautiful views from the top - well worth the trip. We did the Chocolate Factory Tour in Dunedin, that was great as well.
