Money in Canada

Would it be easier to get Canadian money before we go? We will be spending two extra days in Vancouver and will be needing spending money for food, limos, taxis, etc. We'll also be driving to the Yukon from Skagway and will need money for the extras on that trip.
I've read where you can charge your credit card for a better exchange rate, but they also charge a fee for that. We basically need money for tips, coffee, snacks, meals, and souvenirs.

Use your debit card and an ATM. There are still some machines out there that dont charge for use and you can take out as little or as much as you think you'll need. I havent had a problem anywhere I've tried to use them. Most larger items I just charge on my credit card and let them figure the exchange rate. That way you dont have to take out a lot of money that you might end up with if you dont see anything you want.

THanks! I don't think we'll have to worry about money then. I'm assuming it's like the caribbean cruises where they usually take US money also.

WE have a population of over 2 million people and are 45 minutes to the US border. Yes-we take US money and credit cards. Cabs take both. You will get a better exchange rate in a bank and some of the smaller stores make up their own rate.

Time for another Cruise!

Strictly speaking you don't need to exchange your US to Canadian dollars. US dollars are accepted everywhere.

HOWEVER, it would be to your advantage to exchange at least some money for small incidental items such as snacks, tips to tour guides, transit fare, etc. The easiest way to do this is at an ATM, bank, or money exchange. For bigger items, use a credit card. (As grouchy mentioned, smaller stores 'make up' terrible exchange rates.)
