njfirstimer Posted June 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2007 I've read that when you get off the ship at PR, you have to go through immigration. My son is taking his 18 year old friend with us on the 7/14 Crown Princess cruise and there's a chance that he may not have his passport by then. Will they accept a NJ photo drivers license and a birth certificate? Thanks
FredS Posted June 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2007 Adults who have applied for but not yet received a passport should present government-issued photo identification and an official proof of application from the U.S. Department of State. Children under the age of 16 traveling with their parents or legal guardian will be permitted to travel with the child’s proof of application status. Children traveling alone should carry a copy of their birth certificate, baptismal record or a hospital record of birth in the United States in addition to their passport application status documentation. This accommodation applies to all American citizens who apply for passports, until September 30, when this accommodation period ends. U.S. citizens with pending passport applications can obtain proof of application at: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/status/status_2567.html. mrdood Posted June 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2007 You do not need a passport to cruise in the Western Hemisphere until 2008, and maybe later from what I am hearing  Puerto Rico is part of the United States and you only need a drivers license to fly in and out. sultan_sfo Posted June 15, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2007 A news item a few days ago was on local TV about a couple who were refused a flight to Canada because the airline wanted a birth certificate in addition to the proof of application. But I think instead of obtaining the proof from the website you have given they just had a certificate of mailing! After a cruise, often the Pax are "re-entering" US in Puerto Rico and will require proof of citizenship or a visa./Sultan Adults who have applied for but not yet received a passport should present government-issued photo identification and an official proof of application from the U.S. Department of State. UT-Volsfan Posted June 18, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2007 We got off the Crown back on June 8. Only thing you'll need is a government issued photo ID (driver's license) and a birth certificate (with the embossed seal, no photocopies) with you when you go thru the on-board immigrations check-in.
