Family hotels in Sydney, Australia?

Recommended Posts

We will be taking a cruise in January 2009 on Celebrity through Australia. Does anyone have any ideas on some good pre-cruise hotels for a mom, dad, and a 4 year-old boy? A beach would probably be the best bet. Just throwing it out to get ideas.

Thanks,

Cheryl

Cheryl,

What sort of location are you after??? if you want to be in the city heart alas no beaches but if you don't mind travelling a little one of my favourite Sydney hotels is the Manly Pacific - right opposite a lovely, quite famous, surf beach and the hotel also has quite a good pool - it is say a nice 5-10 stroll to the ferry which would then be an (very pleasant) 30 min or so ride to the city - lots of restaurants around it also. If you prefer a hotel in the heart of the city a good one for children is the Swissotel on Market St - good insofar as a delightful outdoors pool which is great for children. Down at Circular Quay people seem to have good luck on Priceline getting the Sydney Harbourside Marriott - which is in a great position for touring and even walking to the Terminal (if your ship is not docking at Darling Harbour) - hope that helps a little .....

For a beachfront hotel, you could also try the Crowne Plaza at Coogee - right across the road from Coogee Beach.

If you are spending a bit of time in Sydney and/or want a little more room - you can try the Meriton Apartments in Bondi Junction (www.meritonapartments.com.au). They can be booked through iother sites also.

Bondi Junction is a short bus ride away from a range of Eastern Suburbs beaches (Bondi, Tamarama, Coogee, Bronte, Clovelly) as well as the harbour beaches (Nielsen Park, Camp Cove). It is also on the train line to get into the city centre (in fact, Meriton Apartments are built on top of the train/bus interchange - but not noisy at all). To top it off, you get magnificent views of the most beautiful city in the world, being on top of a tall building on top of a hill. (We are from Sydney but live overseas - we stay here when we go 'home' and highly recommend it.)
