VIP Checkin without being VIP?

In March my parents and I went on our 5th cruise on the Carnival Triumph, and were booked in a regular inside cabin. However, when it came time to wait in line whoever was in charge looked at our S&S cards and told us we were VIPS and to go in the VIP line. I was really confused because I thought VIP was only for 10+ cruises or if you were booked in a suite, we had the gold cards for having been on more than one cruise. I thought maybe the guy that looked at it didn't realize or something but we had to show the cards to several other people and they told us we were VIP as well. We ended up being the first in line and one of the first people to board, so it was really cool! I'm just wondering why this happened, and I'm going to guess the answer is no lol but would it happen again on our cruise next month?

First in line?

Unless they were CVC members, the only thing I can think of, is maybe the VIP check-in person was totally available.

Did you also get VIP debarkation?

Hubby & I are CVC members, and I wanted to test it out on our last cruise, which was on the Carnival Freedom in the Mediterranean. But, we got there so early, there were only three couples in the check-in terminal, and about 8 check-in desks available. VIP just wasn't an issue; we've never had a quicker check-in. And as for debarkation, we didn't need priority there as we had no train or plane to catch.

We've got a couple of short, weekend cruises coming up before the end of the year, so I guess we'll test the VIP embarkation/debarkation there!

I think we are CVC members but we have been for the last couple cruises and have never had VIP boarding, unless it's something new. We didn't get VIP debarkation though. Unless you were suposed to ask, but we did not need it because we had a late flight.

If they sent up 4 Chocolate Dipped strawberries that first night to your Cabin and received VIP Luggage tags at the end of your cruise then your are a CVC member. But there is no way of telling from your Gold Sail & Sign card as it and your Docs will not state VIP on them.

You have to show them your CVC Membership card to get into the VIP line.

if you meant docs, how did the rep look at your gold cards?

maybe VIP line was empty, so they started funneling people to that desk to expedite boarding. i wldn't bank on it happenning again, though.

What is the Carnival vacation club?

A program that was sold on certain ships for about 3 years. No longer being sold. The name will disappear completely April 2012 when the last contracts expire.

I got strawberries last time I cruised and a photo coupon any idea why? I was a past guest but not VIP or CVC

That could have been a gift from your TA if you used one. We once got a basket of fruit but with no card. We never found out who it was from but figured it must have been from the TA but Carnival either neglected to put a card with it or it somehow got lost. On our last cruise we got a bottle of wine and a bottle of non alcoholic sparkling juice (kids had their own cabin) but this time there was a card and it was from our TA.

On our Freedom cruise the first day our cabin was decorated, second day fruit basket, third day some key chains and something else that I don't remember. The fifth day we got a Carnival tote bag with 2- t-shirts, baseball caps, deck of cards, pens, key chains and a Freedom room book.

We also got a dozen chocolate dipped strawberries because I got sprayed with the water hose from the deck above while I was reading late on my balcony. Everything said courtesy of Carnival. The tote bag was for past cruisers.

Now I have gotten a 45 day letter for a gift on our next cruise on the Splendor.

How did the OP get their S&S card before checking in?

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. We got our S&S when we first came in and after we went through the security check in was when they told us to go into the VIP line.

Probably NOT. Just seems funny that thousands of us don't receive our S&S cards until we check in.

I think what they meant was that after they checked in and received their S & S cards, they were escorted to the front of the boarding line...some ports do this, others do not..:)
