texasmary Posted June 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2007 First time cruiser and first time on this message board... Have any of you had a class DD room on Deck 5 of the Pearl? Did you have a picture window or porthole? Can you describe the room and its approximate size? Which side of the ship is best for the two days of cruising the Inside Passage and Glacier Bay? Thanks. Toyz711 Posted June 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2007 i can tell you about glacier bay. if you were to have a balcony, you would want it on the port/left side. the park rangers do a running discussion about what you see on the port side, plus it's the closest views. but without a balcony, you are going to want to be up on the top deck, to get the WHOLE view. it's amazing. they do turn the ship around to try to give everyone a view, but the port side gets the best/longest viewing times. otherwise, just for cruising there are views on both sides of the ship. Welcome to Cruise Critic. Here's a photo of an oceanview DD cabin aboard the Pearl: Looks like a small window. Port is the best side of the ship when at Glacier Bay. When in the Inside passage, its a tie, both port and starboard have great views.
GottaLuvCruising Posted June 20, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2007 We had a deck five oceanview on the Pearl western Caribbean in December. The window is like 2 feet by 3 feet. It is positioned over the bed and the room is very small. There is no way you are going to stay inside that room for the Alaskan views. We had a balcony on the Pearl for Alaska last month. We chose the starboard side intentionally and really liked it. We had great inside passage views as well as glacier bay. We did go to the promenade to check out the port side, but went right back to our balcony. If you do Alaska in an oceanview, I'd plan on being out in the public areas to enjoy the view.
