maryland Posted June 23, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 23, 2007 Hi-We have booked Joyce for a 2nd time. We toured with her back in 11/05. She drove us all over the island-kind of a general overview tour. We don't want to do the same thing again. She is open to anything, but when we asked her for ideas she basically said whatever we want is fine with her. We are looking for some specific suggestions. Anyone do anything that they considered a not to be missed or something that wasn't so great? I know we would like to have lunch at a "locals" kinda place. Any tips, ideas, etc. would REALLY be appreciated. Thanks!

gtaylor Posted June 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2007 Beaches: Dedicate your time to discovering the beaches that cruisers don't normally visit. Mullet Bay, Cupecoy, Long Baie, Plum, Rouge, Friars, Grand Case, Galion. Sightseeing: If your mother is physically active, consider visiting Fort Amsterdam and Fort St. Louis/Marigot for some fantastic views, although both require a bit of climbing. You've probably been to the Simpson Bay ovrlook and to Monte Vista for a view of your ship and Great Bay. Nature: The St. Maarten Park (Zoo), the Butterfly Farm, the Loterie Farm. Have Joyce show you the sea grapes, and perhaps a Guavaberry. Art: A tour of some artists' gallerys and exhibitions. Minguet, Chapon, Dona Bryhiel, Jill Alexander, Nannette Beardon, Roland Richardson, and many more. Shopping: Rima's Beachwear, Jewelry, perfume and cosmetics, liquor, cheeses, French Wines, French Fashions, 'local' art, especially if visiting on Wednesday or Saturday with the Marigot Marketplace, also exotic spices at the Marketplace. Local Food: Ribs on a beach, like at Dawn or Mullet Bay, eat at the LoLos in Grand Case, or a beachside eatery like Calmos Cafe - also in Grand Case, Rosemary's at the the Marigot Waterfront, any restaurant in Marigot or at the Marigot Marina. gary
Northender Posted June 26, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2007 You did not say when you were going. But I would have Joyce head out of town, stop at Rimas - you only need to go there once, nothing much changes year to year. Then head for Simpson Bay area. Tell her to take you to the Bucaneer Beach Bar for good burgers, etc. They also have access to the beach there (kimshaw):) Or as gtaylor suggested, have some great ribs at a lolo, they are yummy, fall off the bone delish. If you are looking to buy Jewelry in St. Martin, my suggestions are DK Gems or Kays Jewelers (not associated with U.S. Kay's) Front Street in Phillipsburg has a plethera of stores from T-shirts to Coach stuff. Just my ideas, not in any order, but maybe you could incorporate one or two if you wish.
