Muster drill on Jewel

I have only been on one cruise and it was a Carnival cruise. On that cruise, the muster drill was held on the decks - all of us crammed together for about 30 minutes constantly being told to squeeze tighter to make room for the late-comers.

I have been told that not all cruise lines do the drill on the decks - that some of them do the drills in lounges right next to the decks. Since I will be traveling with a shy 3 year old, I was hoping someone can tell me if the Norwegian Jewel is going to make us squeeze out on the deck or in a lounge? PLEASE tell me that I don't have to stand on a crowded deck with a scared, unhappy 3-year old for a half hour! Please?!?!?

We cruised on the Jewel in 2006 wtih 2 boys age 4 and 6 at the time. The muster drill was the smoothest we've encountered and we we seated in one of the showrooms or casino ( can't rememebr exactly) but it was painless and quick for the boys and us :)

Hold on everybody. I have been on both the Star and the Dawn, ships very similar in design and layout to the Jewel. On our two Star trips, we had cabins in the forward part of the ship and yes, were were Station J, and got to muster in the Stardust Theater. A friend was on Deck 8, near midship and got to muster in Aqua restaurant. BUT, on the Dawn this past year, we had a midship cabin on Deck 10. Our muster station was on Deck 7 just outside of the main lobby. Yes, we were crammed together on a windy deck waiting for the late comers!!

So I think it all depends on where your cabin is as to where you muster station will be.

We were on the Jewel in November, and our muster drill was in Le Bistro. Pretty fancy location for a muster drill :D . According to the person who was in charge of our muster drill, they'd made a decision to move the drills inside following the fire on the Princess ship last year, feeling that they would need to account for the passengers in a secure, inside location prior to moving them outside for evacuation if it became necessary.

I don't know for sure how they determine if the muster locations are inside or out. On the old Sea and the Sun, we had to go outside. On both the Jewel and the Pearl, we were inside.

The drill uses many of the dining rooms, it goes very smoothly and lasts a very short time. Our recent Pearl cruise had quite a few German passengers, so all announcements were made in two languages.

Oh, and please don't play around with the silverware and glasses on the already set tables. I will never forget the passenger who sat at a table, combing his moustache with a dinner knife.
