Will I be fine without knowing any Spanish?

Will I be fine with little to no Spanish-speaking ability even if I wander off of the main tourist area? We really want to get to some of the more local shops, but I'm a little concerned about only knowing how to say "hello," "yes," and "no" :(

Besides hola, si, and no, there is another important word you should know.... Bano.

Especially important after having a few margaritas or Coronas.:D

"la Familia" You'll hear that alot. Please come see my shop" You'll be fine in Cozumel with only English. Go back to the Flea Market -so beautiful and cheaper.Wonderful eager to please shop owners.

Agree with you. We were there a couple of months ago. The main drag down by the water was a mad house. There were 6 or 7 ships there that day. We wandered back off the strip a few blocks and it was very pleasant. No crowds and the prices in the shops were lower. Had a relaxed meal and the food was great. (Casa Denise) catering mostly to locals. We made out just fine with our limited Spanish.

In the main area they speak pretty good english. You might want to consider taking a small spanish-english dictionary with you for backup if you are that unsure. You can get them for cheap, I got one at the checkout lane at the store for about 99 cents.

You could also just ask them "habla ingles" which means do you speak english? I think.. sorry it's been a couple years since I've taken spanish.

Cozumel is my favorite port. The reason is the people. They work very hard to keep Cozumel tourist friendly and I really appreciate that. You will have a great time!
