Question about the kid program..

We're taking a princess cruise in Alaska this month. We'll be cruising with our three kids (3yo, 5yo, and 10yo) and my parents. I'm wondering if there are any rules about who can drop-off and pick-up kids from the kid program. Can my mother pick-up the kids if my husband or I drop them off? My husband and I are planning on taking an off boat excursion one morning and then meeting everyone for an afternoon excursion and I'm hoping that my parents can take the kids out of the kid program and meet us off the boat. Also, my dad is planning on taking a off boat excursion with my 10yo. Will we have any issue with the two of them going together without a legal guardian along?

Thanks!

Nicole

I never saw any sort of screen for who was with the kids when disembarking the ship.

As for the kids program, you register first and can list who is allowed to pick up the kids. They will need a photo ID every time they pick them up.

There should not be any problems with your parents taking the kids off the ship, just make sure that everyone has their sign and sail card with them (you, including the kids, will need them to get off the ship as well as back on). As for the kids camp, or funzone, you can dictate up to 4 adults who are authorized to pick your children up from the funzone. Just as an FYI, you will have the option of allowing your 10yo to sign himself in and out of the funzone. We chose not to give this authorization to my 8 and 9 yo, and it seems as though it was pretty much split in their group. For your younger 2 children, and your 10 yo if you choose to not allow him to self-sign, whoever signs him out will need a form of ID. What they did on our cruise, as they told us that it is inconvenient for parents etc. to always have to bring ID, is they made photocopies of them the first day and kept them on record so that they could refer to them.

In case you didn't see it, we just got off the Coral on the 25th (northbound from Vancouver to Whittier) and I posted the scheduled activities for the funzone under the "Princess for kids" thread in family cruising.

Have a great time!

Here is what I posted in the other thread:

I copied the activities from their patter. On sea days, the fun zone was open from 9-12, 2-5 and from 7-10 (10-1am was group sitting and the only time that they charged a fee). There was also the option of leaving them there during port days between 8-5, (Ketchikan part activities were from 8-2 since we left at 2) but since we did not use that I do not have the activities.

One other thing to note is that my kids came home with medals, keychains, totems and t-shirts (and more that I can't think of right now) from their time in the funzone. My kids absolutely loved it!

On our northbound Princess cruise to Alaska this is what the kids did:

First day

Morning:

make new friends

name game and ice breakers

Fun Zone Tour

Make a Gecko

Lego Competition

Cruisers Choice

Afternoon:

T-Shirt coloring contest

Fun Zone photo

Ice Cream party

T-shirt judging

ship trivia hunt

Evening:

face painting

sword making

games

movie

Second day (Ketchikan until 2)

afternoon:

cruisers choice

caricatures

charades

lean about Totem Poles and make one

video games

evening:

Kids met at Horizon court for a kids dinner?

cards and casino night

Third day (Juneau--Funzone only in evening)

sports night (fooseball, long jump, basketball)**

**3-7s stayed in Fun Zone for activities, 8-12 went to sports deck for some.

Fourth day (Skagway--Funzone only in evening)

face and hair painting

disco night

team jeopardy

fifth day (Glacier Bay)

Morning:

cruisers choice

puzzle competition

glacier watching

Make a dreamcatcher

I am adding all of the kids camps info for any cruiseline I can get to one site so the parents here can reference it. Can you scan the Patter? If not, what age, ship, date are these activities from?

You can send any kid's camp info to bmediamom@comcast.net

HI Michelle,

Unfortunately, we are in desperate need of a new scanner (which is why I typed everything in). The information that I posted was right from the patter.

Our cruise info is as follows:

Coral Princess June 18-25

Alaska Northbound (Vancouver to Whittier)

This was used for both 3-7 and 8-12 year olds with some modifications made as deemed appropriate by funzone staff. An example of this is while my 2 DS (ages 9 and 8) went with the Shockwaves (8-12) to the sports deck, the Pelicans (3-7) may have stayed in the funzone for other similar type activities.

I hope this helps and I am sorry about not having a working scanner.

Perfect thanks! We now have a Princess Patter section. Very cool! :D

Hi Michelle...we just returned and had different activities on our ship. If I scan them in, how do I get them to you? Also, just an FYI...our kids went to the kids program, but didn't get to go in the fun zone for most of the trip. They told us there were too many kids, so the 8-12's were in a room in the back of the ship and had to do the acitivities planned, they didn't get to choose. Only time they could choose was in the evening on 2 nights. The room was small, but they managed to make it work. Also, I know you're not a big Disney fan, but I have Navigators' from our cruise with Disney as well. Did you get any of those yet?

You can send the Disney ones too. I *think* I have them too but I have no idea where I put them.

Although it was for the Mexican Riviera sailing on the Sapphire Princess, the kids' patters for the Alaskan cruise on another Princess ship would be very similar, except the themes are different. I think lots of icebergs, polar bears, and winter themes. On our Diamond Princess to Alaska in 2004, the kids patters were very similar to our previous and subsequent Princess cruises.

The age groups of the kids are broken up based on the number of kids on board, but for summer months, I think there will be 4 age groups, instead of 3.

It's possible that your 3YO will not want to stay at the kids' club if he/she never had any preschool or day care experience. So be prepared for that. Princess provides beepers, so if your child needs diaper changes, they'll beep you.

For Alaskan ports of call, you will only need your cruise ship card to get on and off the ship, so I don't think it's a problem if your dad wants to take your 10YO off the ship on his own.

The Fun Zone runs from 9am-12noon, 2pm-5pm, then 7pm-10pm, so someone will have to pick your children up for lunch as the Fun Zone is closed during lunch hours. If your parents can help out, then you can relax and go on your shore excursion.

Princess is very strict about looking at IDs of everyone who picks up the children. Put your parents' names when you register your children for kids' club which is normally before Muster Drill or before diner. Then ask your parents to show their Driver's license or other photo ID so they can pick up the kids (cruise card alone is not good enough).

Be sure to go to the t-shirt coloring day on the first or second day so the kids can get a free t-shirt. It's basically one size for all (size 6-8 t-shirt).
