hire a guide at the pier?

We are on explorer in oct 07 and would like to walk of the ship and hire a driver for an island tour..is this possible and a good idea?

There should be taxis available close by. Choose one with a blue flag, as they are the drivers that have passed a test and are the "real guides". There are other messages with the prices for 4 or 6 in the taxi. Those are the taxis that are regulated for hourly rates. Other taxis just take you some place and are on a meter.
