We are cruising on the Carnival Destiny in December and are looking to see the sites of Dominica... Can anyone recommend any general tours to see the sites? I have heard this is not the place to spend a day at the beach is that right? TIA

You'll get about a 5 hour tour seeing alot of the most beautiful sites with a great driver and tour guide. It's much better IMO to book independently on this island because the guides recommended here are great and their prices are extremely reasonable, too.

We took a tour with Woody http://www.visit-dominica.com/querydetail.cfm?ID=560 just a few weeks ago. It was great. We had read about him here on the boards. He is more expensive, we have no regrets. He doesn't go to the typical sites (there's not many sites on Dominica). It's a beautiful island. You are correct in that they are not known for their beaches. There is a beach you can snorkel at but we didn't want to snorkel so we skipped that. We went to a black sand beach on the Atlantic side. It was a beautiful walk to the beach, then we walked a ways down the beach to a small cove like area where we were able to swim a bit (the water wasn't as rough). On the walk back we were lucky enough to see 4 just hatched leather back turtles. It was a laid back day. We saw no other people except on the roads.
