CaribbeanCrush Posted July 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2007 We have picked a cruise that ports in Montego Bay. But, we really want to do the Dunn's River Falls excursion. According to the RCCL excursion brochure it is 2 hours away and the excursion is 7 1/2 hours! Has anyone ever done this excursion? Do you recommend it? crusinmama06 Posted July 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2007 You can go to the Port of Call Jamaica board and see what people have to say about it. Basically you either love it or hate it. ;) A family who we met on Freedom said it was a LONG bus ride. But they got to see alot of the country which they wanted to do. She said she was disappointed once they arrived at the falls cause it was a "1,000 people holding hands walking up the falls, not my thing" She said if she had known it was going to be like that, she wouldn't have gone. negc Posted July 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2007 The brochure description is accurate. Ocho Rios is at least an hour and a half away from Montego Bay under the best traffic conditions. It is really up to you whether or not you want to spend half of the excursion on a bus going to and coming from the Falls. Perhaps you might find another excursion closer to MO'Bay and save the Falls for a later cruise that will take you to Ocho Rios.:)
mitchrock Posted July 5, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2007 Out of Ocho Rios, I would recommend Dunn's River Falls, not worth the 2 hour drive from Montego Bay.
robtulipe Posted July 5, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 5, 2007 I've done the Dunns River Falls tour from Mo Bay but not with RCCL. I would wait to do it during a Ocho Rios stop when it is much more convenient to do it. It is a long way to go and other posters have reported the main coastal road is being rebuilt and the Jamican bus drivers are just a crazy as ever. The falls are not that spectacular and climbing them up through the rocks and current is the main thing to do. Negril is closer to Mo Bay and is much nicer to see. Also you can watch the locals boys dive from the cliffs at Rick's cafe there or try to outdo them if you are the daring type.
CaribbeanCrush Posted July 5, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted July 5, 2007 Thanks! I agree. I really don't want to do the bus ride.
