fairbourne Posted July 26, 2015 #14930 Share Posted July 26, 2015 I loved this photo of the two of you, and the one of tiny Aruba on such a BIG leash (lead) with that "worried Lab puppy" look on her little face. You have written so well about puppy walking with a perfect balance between stories about the antics of a typical pup and the big responsibility you were preparing her to assume. Your diary entries here and the photos would make a marvelous magazine article. Have you considered pulling it together to submit somewhere? Oh no, thank you but really they're not that good, just for us .... But I have included "our stories" in her photo album but thinking about it I should probably include the "doggy tails" between Aruba and Horton. That'll be a project for a rainy afternoon! DisneyKidsDad Posted July 27, 2015 #14933 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Davis got here on Saturday and he looks amazing!! His forever family is doing a great job with him. We forgot how big he is. The best part is he is a great puppy sitter for Sutter. They have been playing non stop. He is giving Orson and Chaos a break. It's gonna be tough to see him go. thephantomsgirl Posted July 27, 2015 #14936 Share Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) How have you all done your dog food for cruises? I WAS planning on putting a meal in a zip-lock and bringing enough for the trip, plus a little extra. I just spoke with Disney Special Services and she said she was concerned I'd get a firm Customs agent that wouldn't allow it since it wasn't "store sealed". So she advised me to bring a whole bag. Which means I have to bring a 40 pound bag! Fortunately I am driving, but wowza... She said to call a bit beforehand and they'd make arrangements for extra help getting it on board with my carry-on. Geesh... What have you all gone through? Holly Edited July 27, 2015 by thephantomsgirl

Lovely photo - Davis is looking just great and Sutter, well he's growing so fast too! Looks like they're "Double Trouble"! ;):D Is Sutter doing that puppy thing where they always check out the other dogs mouths - just in case they got something to eat and they missed out! Actually I think it comes from the wild when the little ones would wait for the adult dogs to regurgitate the food for them. Yuck - and so it lives on like this! Aruba was always checking out and licking the other two's mouths. So how many dogs in your house right now? LOL!

It's been a long day ..... Why are you going through customs if you are leaving from the U.S.? I'm presuming you are as you said you're driving to the port. Does the Disney person actually mean you may have problems going through the security check? Just wondering out loud ......
thephantomsgirl Posted July 27, 2015 #14939 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I know, it doesn't make sense to me. We are leaving from Miami and it seems to me customs would be at the END of the cruise.

thephantomsgirl Posted July 27, 2015 #14941 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Special services consists of about four people... I think I'll try again though. The more I think of it, the more it does NOT make sense.
fairbourne Posted July 27, 2015 #14942 Share Posted July 27, 2015 It just doesn't make sense. Mind you some people don't understand the difference between customs and security, but you would think and hope a cruise specialist would! I'm trying to recall when we've boarded a ship in the UK or anywhere else and it has just been ship check in and then security check - same as you get at airports with the X-ray scanner but no customs. thephantomsgirl Posted July 27, 2015 #14943 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I was just going over some old messages on FB with Cari Shields who will be bringing her guide dog on this same cruise. Looks like she will be bringing a sealed bag as well. Back awhile ago she wanted to know what Jagger ate. Thought perhaps we could split a bag if they ate the same type, but no, they eat different brands. So I guess she will be bringing a sealed bag as well. (although having it shipped to the hotel) I've messaged her. She's flying so that might be the difference.

Caribbean Chris Posted July 27, 2015 #14946 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Holly, I measure out a meal plus extras (fish oil capsule, powdered supplement) into quart size zip lock bags. Then I bundle a few days' worth and put those in my tote that I wheel aboard so I am sure to have them handy if luggage is delayed. The rest I pack into Raylene's own rolling suitcase (enough for the cruise plus at least three days just in case) along with food & water bowl, treats, tooth chews, toys, first aid kit, flea & tick stuff, heartworm stuff, life jacket, towel, spare leash, poop bags, canned pumpkin, and the kitchen sink. No one questioned it on Celebrity or Holland America Line. Their instructions say the cruise line will not provide food (of course, nor would you want them to!), and that you are permitted to bring aboard a supply. Nothing about "in its original package." I suppose you could tear off a portion of the wrapper bag with the brand name and ingredients in case someone wants to know for some mysterious reason.
