Anyone on Sept 7 Voyager? (Rouen-Monte Carlo)

Recommended Posts

Who's on this Food and Wine "Spotlight" cruise?

We sure ready... tickets arrived today ... can't wait.

Is anyone else staying pre-cruise at the De Gaulle Airport Hilton? It's convenient to the RER Train Station, which takes you to the middle of Paris in 35 minutes. Maybe we can a group together for a Paris dinner outing.

We have nothing plannned. Probably see what is available. We leave Sunday for 4 night pre-cruise in Moscow.:D

We fly to Paris arriving on the 7th. with the transfer to Rouen from CDG. Our cabin is 744. We have booked "Alain" for a day in Bordeaux. He has a van which can accomodate 6 or 7 and he comes well recommended from a previous cruise. We are not wine tasters nor museum devotees, but enjoy sights and views and old villages, etc. My wife cannot walk long distances. We rarely use ship excursions for various reasons. Alain will plan the day as we wish. St.Emilion will certainly be the main focus. See you on board.

Our group of 8 is on the cruise and I would like to meet all of you. This same group did the Voyager last September - Venice to Athens( supposed to be Istanbul).

We are going into Paris on the 4th and doing Champagne and Normandy. One of my life's goals has been to see the D Day beaches and I'm going to get to check this one off of my list. I feel like a kid- can't stand the anticipation.

Maybe we could have a drink one night on the ship before dinner

We were on Voyager last October, Athens to Barcelona.

We were a large group on VTC, L.A. to Ft. Laud. last April. We all arranged to meet in the observation lounge (Ngaire's favourite spot) following the lifeboat drill. Perhaps we can do the same. Those already on board can set up some tables ??

Anyone have any suggestions of what to do while in Rouen? We will already be on the ship from the previous cruise. Should we spend the day walking around Rouen or rent a car anc drive around the countryside? Is there anything to see or do there? Do not want to go back to Paris. Spent a week there a few yrs ago. Yes, let's meet in the observation lounge.

I will be arriving very early the morning of Sept 6 at the De Gaulle Airport Hilton for this cruise. I am traveling solo and would be interested in joining a group for dinner in Paris. It has been almost 20 years since I was there last. Since I booked the pre-cruise through Radisson it includes the transfer to the ship the next day. I haven't done that before but since I am on my own this time it seemed the thing to do. I really want to see the Monet house and Giverney on Tuesday before boarding Voyager. Does anyone know if that will be an option? I sent an email to the local ground operator last week but haven't heard anything. I am so looking forward to this trip.

Does anyone know what time the bus departs from the De Gaulle Airport Hilton to Rouen on Tuesday? That's what will determine whether anyone with that transfer arrangement can do any meaningful touring on Tuesday before boarding.

This RSSC transfer is a good idea, I think, because Rouen is more than an hour away. It's certainly not like most cruises we've taken, where the arrival city is usually a short taxi ride to the cruise terminal!

The e-mail addresses and the fax # for the ground operator were incorrect. I called RSSC and they had not upgraded their records. Allied France is the Co.

So I wrote last week. We arrive at CDG about 9.30 a.m. I asked whether the transfer bus uses N 30, the scenic route, or the autoroute. And about what time do we get to Voyager. I will post the response.

I was talking with a French friend from Bordaeux yesterday, and I asked him if he was familiar with Rouen. He had been there several times, and said it has small "old town" and several sites that he'd recommend throughout the town: Musee (museum) Jeane D'Arc, Tour (tower) Jeane D'Arc, and Cathedrale Notre Dame. He added that he didn't recommend Musee Des Beaux Arts... nothing special.

According to the cruise tour book map, everything looks within walking distance of the ship.

The ground operator finally responded that we take the autoroute to Rouen not the picturesque N 30. I asked her for the departure time, last week. No reply. I e-mailed just now, 12.17 p.m. Paris time. I will post her answer if she ever does !!

Our concern now is hurricane Frances. Our flight from Miami is 6.30 p.m. on Monday. It seems as though the brunt will hit land on Sat. RSSC booked it so the worst scenario is leaving the next day and busing to St. Malo.

Just heard from the ground operator. We will be minibused to CDG Hilton for breakfast, and various departures by coach from there. I told her we don't want breakfast. After 9 hrs. overnight we just want to relax in the ship's lounge by getting there as soon as possible.

The info I saw on the The Weather Channel this a.m. showed Frances still off the SE coast on Saturday so landfall could be as late as Sunday. I am trying to decide what to do. I am scheduled to fly out of Ft. Lauderdale around noon on Sunday and have only an hour and 10 minutes to connect to Air France in Atlanta. But I guess if Frances makes a direct or semi direct hit on us I might have more critical things to worry about than a cruise! :( Let's just keep our fingers crossed, Neville. And like you, I had RSSC book the flights so they will help. I also bought insurance.

Please share the email address for the ground operator. I would like to find out about tours in the Rouen area. I am really hoping to see the area on Tuesday before embarkation.

I just looked at our local weather chap's charts. By Wed. we will have a good idea of the situation. We fly AA from Miami at 6.30 p.m. to Paris on Monday so I believe that the worst will be over by then.

The address I have is nadia@allied-europe.fr.

Now this is strange. I sent a message and got mailer deamon. An hour later-it went through.

Weather in Ft. Laud. is hot (94) and the odd shower at night. Same for the rest of the week. But Fri------????

I just checked our AA flight and there are several business class seats available if RSSC decides to move you dependant on Frances.

Neville,

Thanks for sending the email address. That is the one I had in my documents and sent an email to on 8/15 with no response. At this point I will just wait til I get there to look into a tour since things are so "up in the air" ;) . And thanks too for looking at the availability of the flights on Monday. That makes me feel better. I hadn't actually gotten around to doing that. Was out all day doing last minute errands. I am proceeding as though everything will be fine! Getting very excited about the cruise and I am looking forward to meeting all of you. :D

Love the sea - we both live in Pompano. We are in Palmaire. So we both know what lies ahead with Frances. You may be lucky for Sunday. In the meantime we will carry on and hope.

Neville,

I sent you an email. I am also in Palmaire. I have just about finished packing for the cruise. It is something positive I can do. If my townhouse survives the storm then I feel pretty good about my chances to get out of here Sunday or Monday.

I REALLY HOPE I get to meet you and the others who have posted here onboard the Voyager Sept 7 (which is also my birthday)!:D
