Ncl Is Going Smoke Free!

Lucky Guy

Recommended Posts

On my recent Pearl cruise I was told by an officer that as of July 15, 2007 ALL OF NCL will be mostly SMOKE FREE

You will be allowed to still smoke in your cabins and in the Cigar Room and the Casino and on open decks. No more smoking in any inside lounges or BARS!

Just thought I would share the news

Beginning July 15, 2007

Staterooms

Cigarette smoking in staterooms and on balconies will be permitted.

Non-smoking guests concerned about sailing in a stateroom that may have been previously occupied by a smoking guest should be advised of the following:

Staterooms with smokers will be deep-cleaned after disembarkation.

Ionizers and carpet freshener will be used to rid the stateroom of the smell of smoke

Bedspreads will be dry cleaned and replaced.

If the stateroom was previously occupied with heavy smokers, drapes, pillows and other upholstery will be dry cleaned and the walls wiped down and carpets will be steam cleaned as necessary.

Cigar and pipe smoking in staterooms and on balconies will be prohibited.

Indoor Spaces

All interior venues, with the exception of the enclosed cigar bars and the casino, will be non-smoking. Smoking will be prohibited in all restaurants, bars, theatres, meeting rooms, restrooms, corridors, stairwells and lobbies.

Cigarette smoking in the casino will be permitted.

Cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking will be permitted in enclosed cigar bars.

Outdoor Spaces

Cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking will be permitted in outdoor public guest spaces and open decks, where designated by ship’s management, based on the ship’s specific characteristics. No smoking will be permitted in or near venues serving food, the jogging track, outdoor sporting venues and children’s pool areas.

Ship’s management may also prohibit outdoor smoking at certain times such as during safety drills, tendering operations or while refueling.

Not much difference than before. Just one side of a bar area has been added to the no smoking areas. I guess smokers will have to treat the bar areas as restaurants. As long as smokers can smoke in the cigar bars, outside decks, and the casino they should be able to handle the new policy.

Whew, when I read the title I didnt think I would be able to smoke at all!!

I guess I will be spending all of my time in the casino!!

We are both smokers, but we can deal with smoking outside....

LOL...if I'm on a ship, that is the only time I do smoke! Because what happenes on a ship stays on a ship! I loved my Martini and a Cigarette, before and after dinner... !!!

I guess I can deal with it though...actually it is a good thing:D !!!

I wouldnt exactly call that "smoke free' by any means... still plenty of places to smoke... more like smoke reduced.

You can still smoke in your cabin,

balcony,

casino,

cigar bar,

open decks

The only real change seems to be bars. Boy... the casino bar(s) will be crowded. :D

I guess I'll save some money from not hanging out in the bars.

Actually, my only problem is, if NCL is changing their policy AGAIN WITHOUT NOTIFYING PASSENGERS.

For a lot of people this is a significant change. I'll have to find out officially but I may have to rethink my Pearl cruise. :(

Beginning July 15, 2007 Cigarette smoking in staterooms and ON BALCONIES will be permitted.

"Alas poor Yorik, that's the rub!" Ever sit on your balcony with a smoker one cabin forward of you with his/her smoke wafting over you, around you, and into you?

If your cabin-mates don't like the smoke, what makes you think your neighbors do?

I'm a smoker but this doesn't bother me in the least. I NEVER smoke inside anywhere, including my home and I won't be hanging out in the bars anyway. I probably won't even smoke in my cabin, my balcony? Now that's another story;) .

Even when they allowed smoking in restaurants in my home town (they don't now) I would always ask for the non-smoking section. Even though I smoke, I consider myself courteous enough not to affect others with it.

Just my .02.

Happy Sailing!!

I am not a big smoker, but I do smoke a pipe. Never planned on smoking it in my room but was definitely looking forward to having it in the casino...:( Why cigs okay but not cigars and pipes? I know the smoke is def more dense, but smells a whole lot better IMO.

I'm so happy about this. This is our first cruise. Have any non-smokers out there ever had a problem with cigarette odors in the cabins?

No and I am an asthmatic with an allergy to cigarette smoke. Truly the only place I really notice smoke is in the Casino - so I just drop by for a very brief visit and money deposit.

I guess I'll be saving A LOT of money by not sitting in the bars anymore either or in the coffee bar having my morning coffee. The Casino Bar is not for me.

I dont like that they changed policy on such short notice either. And Fleetwide?? Why not try ONE ship and see how that goes??

Actually, I'm a smoker and pipe/cigar smoke bothers me. But then again, so does perfume...go figure.

It's not a major problem though. I just move away several feet and I'm fine.

Ohio passed a statewide smoking ban last November by a vote of 70% to 30%. No smoking in any public places or private clubs including all bars, bowling alleys and VFW halls. There was gloom and doom predicted, but actually business has been up in many of the venues.

Comfort Suite Hotels & all of the Disney Hotels have now made all of their rooms non-smoking.

It is the wave of the future.
