Anyone else mad at RCCL pulled out of New Orleans?

Recommended Posts

Our first cruise out of New Orleans was Royal Caribbean's last cruise out of New Orleans. Granduer April 28, 2007. I found the city to be every bit as colorful as it was on the one pre-Katrina visit I did. I found lots of interesting people. I saw historic sights. I learned more about the culture. I really liked walking to the port from our hotel. I did not feel unsafe at any point. I would cruise out of there again without hesitation.

We had no hotel issues, no port issues, embarking was simple and organized. The taxi was VERY pricey though.

I'd think RCI might consider Mobile before considering NO again or both to gain more ports along the Gulf Coast opening up cruising to more folks for whom when adding on air the cost was more than they would consider in the past. Of course Galveston, NO, Mobile all suffer from the extra distance from the Cruise destination ports of call that cruising passengers want to see.

RCI did try to move a ship here to Mobile last year but it was too big for our port. :( It has been stated that the Carnival Fantasy Class (855') is the max for our turning basin as it is currently.

Maybe the Corp of Engineers can enlarge the turning basin. That must have been a disappointment for y'all!

Just tonight on Anderson Cooper they were talking about how unsafe New Orleans is and how there have been 100 murders since January of this year.

Anyway, I would like to sail out of New Orleans too.

We sailed over new years w/ 3 teens in adjoining rooms. NO was a great port to cruise from. We went in a day early and walked around the FQ and riverfront. Our hotel was a short walk to the terminal... quick on, quick off and the cab line took maybe 5min. I'm thinking one of the issues may be fuel consumption. It is a long haul to those ports of call.
