i booked a room right next door to the atlantis at the comfort suites for 240.00.. oposed to getting the atlantis day passes for 130 pp.... if you get a room at the comfort suites you get complete all access to the atlantis-

You guys are stupid. I am sorry. If I pay upwards of 200+ for a room, I want to spend the night and be able to get up the next morning when I want to and enjoy the surroundings. you want a room key, funny, I thought you had to turn those in. Or get charged nearly 20$ for the key.

But that is just plain stupidity to rent a room for 15 hours.

More power to you if you can afford that kind of wasted money. I have a room I have paid for. I have free food, I have live entertainment, and it don't 240+ dollars to enjoy it. Heck you could almost pay for another person the cruise for what you just spent.

You don't need a hotel room to enjoy the casino at Atlantas, or the bars.

As for swimming, go to the ship it's the same water.

Thanks I don't think I have ever been called "stupid" on this board before so that's a new one.

I have kids (and the OP is young) so we are paying for the waterpark NOT the casino.

So I am assuming that you do NO excursions when you take a cruise? What a pity? When we travel to Nassau we book Atlantis which breaks down as low as $45 per person or we can take an overpriced cruise excursion. That's our choice.

If that's the case then I feel bad for you that you visit all of these beautiful countries and you don't see them because you have a "pool on the ship/free food and live entertainment" That's a real shame.

And if we have the money (which I assure you I do) then I can spend my money on anything I want...including a trip to Atlantis. I have no need to bring MORE people on the cruise with me, we are already traveling in a large group, but thanks for asking.

And personally, the only one who is "stupid" around here is the person who would be "stupid" enough to come and accuse an entire group of people of being stupid just for going to Atlantis. How childish is THAT?

Ouch.......

I don't see the sense in the whole Atlantis thing myself, but I would never call someone else choice of things to do "stupid"...

To each their own.

The more people piling into Atlantis, the less crowded the rest of Nassau will be for those of us who prefer things to do in town.

The important thing is for EVERYONE to enjoy whatever choice they make in port.(as long as they feel they have gotten their money's worth..it's all good)

Okay so Ill pay 130 pp to enjoy the atlantis... hunnie its actually SAVING money to just get a room for the day- do the math 130 X 4 = 520 opposed to 120 per COUPLE = 240....I never saw the atlantis b4 and I didnt take this cruise to sit on the boat just because everythings paid for already- if your gonna take the vaca DO IT RIGHT-

Im not stupid, i just want to enjoy things OUTSIDE of the damn boat- its one stop and its my birthday so ill do what i want- we all love waterparks and stuff-

and i would want the key too! Its a cute memory of the beautiful atlantis-

I think you've missed the point (but don't worry, I won't call you "stupid"...).

It's not about renting another hotel room in which to stay, it's more about being the most cost-effective way to get access to all of the Atlantis facilities; the pools, exhibits, etc, outside of the main building which is all that you can access without being a hotel guest.

Atlantis charges quite a bit for this access and it's not always available. With the "rent a room" plan, if you have 4 people and rent a room for $200, it's $50/pp.

So this part of the thread is really nothing more than a "getting the best price on a shore excursion" discussion.

Exactly, thank you cruise monkey. When you work out $50 pp verses the $105 pp day pass or the $160 pp cruise excursion that's now available...it makes more sense to take the better deal and be a guest at the resort.

AND Atlantis at Christmastime makes a perfect Greeting Card. ;) :D

Great Christmas Card!

I had already thought about taking a santa hat to take a Christmas Card picture but hadn't thought of taking a shirt. I'll have to remember that.

I too am excited to go and spend the day! Surprises abound for my DH on his 40th! He thinks we are going out in the RV for the weekend. Surprise #1 - When we go to the airport instead, I will tell him we are going to see his brother in Cocoa Beach! His brother is picking us up at the airport and instead of going to Cocoa, surprise #2 - he will take us to the port! Then he will know we are going on a cruise! Surprise #3 - His best friend and his wife will be on board also! Surprise #4 - we already have $400 in onboard credit! And last but not least surprise #5 - Atlantis for the day! I have been before, but he has not. We too booked at the comfort Suites to save $200! Call me stupid all day, I know who really is the stupid one here!;)

I did not say you were stupid for going to Atlantis, but stupid for paying that much for a room.

No we don't do excursiions because of the cost.

We are a limited income family. we don't have rich uncles or other family members paying our way. no child support, no aliamony, no personal income of anykind. I am on social security, and my DH makes just enough to cover the monthly bills.

Cruises come from our tax return. We don't do elaberate things on our cruises. Who said I sit on the ship????? NOT ME. I am just saying that to go that far to rent a room you will never see is stupid. At least go to the room and enjoy it for a little while.

But to each his own. If you feel that 240+ extra for the day is good money for something you won't see, plus the cost of food which will be about another 200 for your group if yo eat 2 meals there, plus all the drinks you will have to have so you dont dehydrat another 50$ then more power toyou.

I just don't see wasting that much money for nothing. I refuse to pay the 15$ pp just to get to atlantis.

Nassau is boring at best, even if you do go to atlantis. I personally can't stand that many people in such a small place. There is a lot of the town we have not seen because I refuse to put my life in the hands of the drivers there Can't cross the street without puting you life on the line. They don't stop for pedistrians, and personally, i don't need that.

I almost lost my life last year. In fact, the doctors said I should be dead. So it is a pleasure for me just to go and do the straw markets. I have seen another country. Learned of their culture just by looking around, and walked on the land.

That is worth the cruise to me.

If I were staying for a week I would consider a room. But not just to enjoy a water slide. Or a pool. Plus i pay that much for a room, you better believe, I will at least take a nap in it.

otherwise, it is OH you stayed at the Atlantis, how was the room. How was room service, How was the beds? i dont' know is most answers if you don't go in. we did not go in the room. Sorry. I have better things to do with my money.

So you formulated your entire opinion of Nassau by going to the Straw Market?

And you think you learned of their culture by going a few feet from the Welcome Center and not actually heading into town?!?!?!

That is like going to New York City and stopping at a flea market and thinking you've learned all about New York....

LOL....

My Wife and I have been twice this year and spent a grand total of $50 each time,(for both of us) for an extremely full day, that included doing a great walking tour to all the main tourist sites, meeting a bunch of wonderful people in town, as they were heading to work each time.

Getting the $15 daypasses at the British Colonial Hilton and using their pool and beach all afternoon, then taking cabs ($20 round trip for both) over to Atlantis and seeing the grounds, Casino, Mall and the Digs Aquarium for free....

Just because you are on a budget, doesn't mean you have to bury your head in the Straw Market and flee back to the ship after seeing the absolute worst parts of Nassau. (the Straw Market and Bay Street) And meeting none of the real folks in Nassau. (not the salespeople)

I am lucky enough to a live a very short drive from 4 major waterparks, with local weather mild enough that we could comfortably visit 9 months out of the year. We could buy family annual passes for the price of a room at the Comfort Inn Atlantis. (At least "one" other poster in this thread is in the same situation, judging by the "Kissimmee" in their signature.)

For us, the above makes the Atlantis visit option not a very good value for money. For my brothers family, who lives nearby and are in a similar but slightly higher income bracket, the Atlantis is a "must see" destination.

It would never occur to me to call his vacation choice stupid.

I also have met people on cruises that are uncomfortable in strange environments, and don't have the drive to "explore". They still seemed to enjoy their vacation as much as I did, without venturing far from the ship.

It would never occur to me to call their vacation choice stupid.

One thing we base what we do on is the temp. I have medical problems and can not be in the hot sun that much.

I did not say going to Atlantis was STUPID. I said paying that much for a room over there that you won't step foot in is stupid.

Hey if you want to go give your vacation money to a hotel you won't enjoy the room with go for it. it is your choice. but 400 the day we are going to be there for a mere 5 hours is well stupid. and anyone who pays that for a room just to enjoy the hotel is either from a wealthy family, or just likes wasting money.

BUT IT IS THEIR CHOICE. SO GOD SPEED TO THOSE WHO DO THAT. I have better things to do with my money.

Anyway- let me make this str8 to you...

Im 23 years old...No mommy and daddy do not pay for my activities... outta of the 4 cruises ive been on 2 were paid by my father because well i wasnt even 18 yet- other then that been on my own since then- ....

This is my FIRST time going to the bahamas... i always wanted to stay at the bahamas ATLANTIS-- but soooo expensive....--- if you going to go on vacation you have to go and live it to the fullest of your abilities--enjoy every second of it.. without going oh crap i cant do this i cant do that.. i hate that!!!!!---Im NOT getting a room at the atlantis--- and if i did you better bet your butt ill be in there just to check it out--- im sorry im 23 on vacation for a short cruise... THERE WILL BE NO NAPPING-...we got a room at the comfort suites for 240- its gross there- dirty room ... why would i want to go there???- Only reason why is because instead of paying 500 for the atlantis- your only paying 240- STEALLLL in my eyes little less then half- and you can enjoy everything in the atlantis.... all access!!! If your worried about 50 bucks in food then maybe you shouldnt go on vacation- or who cares go back to the boat its only a 10 min ride over there!!!!!! then go back --- and its not a merely "5 hours like you said---- its from 10AM - 6AM the next morning-- so you basically have ALL day- ... IM sorry but renting the room that im not going in IS NOT STUPID! ....

I am sailing on the Sensation to Nassau, but we don't have any interest in Atlantis. We also live near lots of fantastic water parks, and quite frankly I didn't see the attraction of Atlantis from just reading about it. But seeing those pictures... wow! It's beautiful. After seeing pics, I can totally understand wanting to spend your port day there. Still sticking with diving, though. :) (And by the way, your daughters are beautiful!)

Urbabie2, enjoy your cruise!
