We are trying to decide on the following:

 

Private shore excursions for:

 

Livorno/Florence--Does anyone have recent experience with:

Naples/Pompeii/Amalfi Coast--Does anyone have recent experience with:

tourofitaly.com (Giancarlo Gargiulo)

Or, if anyone has any other recommendations for private excursion drivers/guides, please let me know. There will be six of us, ages 10 to 80.

 

Also, we are looking for a recomendation for a driver/private tour guide in Rome to pick us up at the airport on the morning we arrive in Rome (jetlagged) and give us a private tour until we can check in at the hotel around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

 

Also, many of the emails I received back state that I need to give my credit card number for their use in case we are no shows. (Payment in cash at end of tour.) Although I understand the companies' point of view, I am very uncomfortable doing this since most of the websites don't seem to have secure encryption. How has anyone else handled this?

We used Giovanni (who I believe is Giancarlo's father) from tourofitaly and were very satisfied. Six adults fit very comfortably in his van.

 

If you send your credit card # in two separate emails, you may feel more secure.

We used Angelo at WWW.FLORENCELIMOTOURS.COM for our last trip to

Florence. He picked us up at Livorno & drove to Florence.

 

We had a wonderful time with Angelo. He lives in Florence & went to

Boston College so his English was EXCELLENT! He had great gelato recommendations, knew the city very well and picked us up and dropped off promptly. We were supposed to go to Pisa for a quick stop on the way back but there was an accident & construction & traffic was horrible getting back to the port. Angelo felt terrible that we didn't make it to

Pisa and even took 40 euros off the price. It was very honest of him as it wasn't his fault. We highly recommend Angelo when visiting Florence.
