Snorkel equipment tips

Hi all. We will be crusing on Mariner of the Seas in Sept. and have decided we want to buy our own snorkel equipment for the trip. I've been doing research but have a question.

What does everyone reccomend for a snorkel. I've several of them advertised as dry top or some such system to keep water totally out when submurged. The set I'm looking at at Dicks Sporting Goods has a splash guard but not the dry top. Does it matter? What does everyone else reccomend?

Thanks,

P

Hi,

I suggest looking at a "dry snorkel". They have special baffling to block the water from coming down your snorkel, even while submerged. However, if you don't expect much in the way of waves and snorkel well (some folks look down past 90 degrees and expose the top of their snorkels to water), then a "water resistant" snorkel will work just fine.

I have tried all the different styles, but keep using a regular "wet" snorkle. I have found that it works better when you just blow out the water after you surface. Ebay will get you some good equipment at a good price

Actually we ended up getting one of each kind of snorkel. The local Dicks Sportting Goods had a regular snorkel with fins that fit me and a dry snorkel with fins that fit the wife. We tested them out in a pool this weekend and both worked just fine.

Thanks for the replies!
