Whats the difference?

I see ppl on here complaining about room assignments. What is the difference in cat 4a 4b 4c and so forth. On the website for carnival fantasy it only has one pic of a stateroom. So I would like to know what the difference is between them, Thank you.

cat 4 would be interior

 

4A would be the lowest interior cabin deck

4B would be the next deck up

4C up another and so on

 

the same usually applies to OV and Balconies..... the higher the alphabet letter equals higher deck and higher $$.........except for spirit class balconies.......they have a few different alphabet characters on some of the decks because of extended or non extended balconies

The Higher the Letter the higher the Floor etc.

 

 

Cat. 4a is Riviera Deck / Deck 1

Cat. 4e is Panorama Deck / Deck 8

You get get a cabin in the category guarantee you purchased and sometimes you are upgraded to a higher deck, better location etc. Many people are disappointed with the assigned cabin, so it is not a good idea to purchase a guarantee if you want a certain deck and location. Guarantee cabins are less expensive.

Addendum: In general, all cabins within a category are the pretty much the same [almost all "Cat 4" cabins are the same]. There are exceptions...but they are just that :D

As you know, my last cruise, April on the Spirit I got burned on my Upgrade, never again :D Cat. 4a to a 4e seemed great but it was under the pool deck. Today I book specific cabins as my luck has run out.

The answer really depends on you. A guar. cabin assure you'll be on the ship in at least the category you paid for. Nothing more...nothing less. That can include what some consider the "worst" cabin within a category. I want a bed period. I really don't care where it is. Which is why I've chosen guar. on 19 of my 21 cruises....including my 1st.

 

If you want to make sure you're near someplace in particular, choose a specific cabin. An article that might help:

I pick my cabin from the deck plan.

 

Generally speaking, the higher the cabin, the closer to the bow (front of the boat) or the stern (back end of the boat) the more you'll notice the motion of the ship.

 

My current bookings are on the Upper deck on both the Conquest and the Inspiration pretty much in the middle of the boat (amidships). Not that I'm prone to motion sickness but it does tend to make the nicest ride.

 

Additionally, check the deck plans above and below the cabin you're interested in. Having the casino or a club below or above you might induce some unwanted noise in your cabin.

 

Balcony or not to balcony? I love being able to hang out on the balcony and look at the sea, enjoy an adult beverage and chill. Lovely. There are additional activities that folks engage in on the balconies but I'll leave that to your imagination...

I haven't really noticed a lot of complaining about cabin location. It's really very simple:

 

If you want to pay a little bit less and let the cruiseline pick your cabin, go for the guarantee.

 

I would never do that. I want to know exactly where I'll be, so I always choose a cabin I know I'll be happy with.

 

If you do go for a guarantee for whatever reason, accept the fact that you could be anywhere on the ship; no sense complaining....it was your choice!:rolleyes:

If you're not picky, go with a guarantee. As you become a more experienced cruiser and come to learn about the differences in cabin locations, balcony sizes, etc., you may or may not be more selective about the type of cabin you want. Some considerations people have are:

 

Will you be spending much time in your cabin?

 

Do you want a balcony? Porthole/window? French doors?

 

Do you want a refrigerator in your cabin?

 

How large a balcony do you need?

 

Do you want a completely unobstructed view, or is it okay if there are some lifeboats just above/below your view?

 

Which side of the ship do you want to be on? Do you care about being able to look from your balcony/porthole and see the ship pulling into port?

 

Are you prone to motion sickness? (see machman's post)

 

Do you want to be on the deck that's closest to spa/restaurant/casino/pool deck, whathaveyou?

 

Do you want a cabin that is nearest to stairs/elevators/laundry room/etc.?

 

Will you be sensitive to noise if your cabin is underneath the pool deck/nightclub/dining room/theatre/etc.?

 

etc., etc.
