Questions about upsells

We are on a Pearl cruise in Feb that currently isn't very full and are hoping to get a bit more room for our family of 4 than the mini-suite allows. How frequent are the upsells? What are the typical savings?

Any info would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

You can have your TA mention to NCL that you are interested in an upsell. Used to be you could call in directly and ask, but not anymore. Timing varies from 1 month to 1 week beofre cruise and prices vary as the market demands. We usually dont take the first upsell offer and try to counter offer. But please dont count on an upsell offer to come...be happy with your cabin now and if one offer comes along that you can afford...then great!

You would be better off getting 2 attached balcony rooms. the cost of an upgrade for 4 will be at least twice as much as the current price of your mini-suite. That pricing will probably not go down. We sailed the Pearl this last Feb and have cruised the mexican Riveria a few times mostly in Feb. All of the cruises have sold out the balconies and above at least 6 weeks prior to the cruise.:)

IIRC, the only upsells available on the Pearl from your mini that would accommodate 4 persons would be the AB and the A3, plus the large GV. There aren't too many cabins in those categories, so an upsell is less likely than if you were 2 persons. We had a difficult time booking an AB last Feb on the Pearl (fairly last minute) and had to wait until one became available. If you definitely think you need more room, I would either book adjoining balconies or go ahead and up to the AB at this point. If you think you will be ok in the mini, then just wait and see, and maybe call your TA and have them note to NCL that you are "open to an upsell". Who knows, you might get an upsell offer.
