STAR 8/4 need your advice

Hello all!

We are leaving on the Star next Saturday(8/4). I would love to hear any last minute advice or suggestions. What to miss or not to miss on the ship and Alaska in general. I have not set up any excursions as of yet. If anyone has any ideas for a group of 7.

How do the specialty restaurant charge for children under 12? Do they pay full price?

What are the best activities on the ship? I would love to know what not to miss in the restaurants.

Favorite waiters to look for or request?

Also, any tips for Whistler,BC and Vancouver would be very helpful too.

many thanks

Amy

Any teens on this sailing??

not too many favorite waiters...with freestyle you don't sit at the same table very often, in fact, we only ate at 1 of the dining rooms twice. my only hint...don't get set into a pattern, try the other restaurants. versailles and aqua have the same menus, each night, but not the same feel.

go over to the alaska port-of-call to check out and read what others are saying in their reviews. also, check out the websites for the ports

http://www.visit-ketchikan.com/

http://www.skagway.com/

you may find more to do then just the ship's excursions.

at the surcharge restaurants...if the kids eat an entree off the menu, they get charged full price. but they can order off the kid's menus or just have all the veggies, salads they want.

with a group of 7, bet everyone won't have the same ideas of what they want to do. our's didn't. 4 went to mendenhall on the $6 shuttle (pp 1-way). DH and i went whale watching, FIL stayed on the ship. that was just in juneau. but we did have dinner together most nights.

the main dining rooms don't like to make reservations for parties less then 8, our party of 7 did request and get a reservations for a special night at the versailles. go early or go late and they should seat you without little or no wait.

It's best to ask about shore excursions at the ports of call forums. I don't have an idea what your budget is for shore excursions, nor what you prefer to do. Assuming your budget is small, I suggest just walking around the tourists area at Skagway, and Ketchican. In Juneau, a ride downtown on the bus, or the Mount Roberts Tramway are fairly cheap.

Whatever your budget is, or what you prefer to do, there's plenty of choices to choose from.

Have a great cruise. :)
