katleigh3 Posted July 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We are sailing for our honeymoon on Pride of Aloha in April of 08. We currently have an AC cabin. I really would like to upgrade to an AB just to be in the aft of the ship...but for an extra $1000.00...seems a little pricey for the same room just in a different location. What are you thoughts??? Worth it??? Does NCL ever upgrade passengers if rooms are still available? or do they lower the cost of the suites as the sailing date gets closer? The AB has a larger deck and private bedroom. The AC has one large room with a small extra bunk area, (curtained) for additional guest. While the NCL site shows these cabins being the same size after seeing them both I don't believe it. The AB feels much larger and more comfortable. Actually we stayed in an AA and it felt only slightly larger then the AB. There is a chance they will upgrade you, or you may also get an upsell offer for the AB after final payment. That offer will probably be at a lower rate then you were currenty quoted. Remember that the Pride of Hawaii will be gone in Apr 08. With less capacity available in Hawaii there is a better chance they will sell out both the Aloha and America. It is your honeymoon if you really want the AB just splurge and get it. Congratulations on your upcoming Wedding.
beachchick Posted July 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2007 Free upgrades happen very rarely because the ships often sail full. Besides that, NCL does tend to call and offer what are called "upsells" prior to the cruise date. This involves offering a higher level cabin at a discounted rate. That way they can have a better chance of reselling the lower level cabin. You cannot call and ask for this, and your chances depend entirely on how well the cruise is selling, what categories are selling well (or not), and what categories they think they can resell at the last minute. Even if there is availability, you won't necessarily be called because they have a list and go from there. If you are lucky enough to receive an upsell call, be prepared to say yes or no immediately. If you say you need to think about it, they'll just move right on to the next person on the list. Look at the categories above yours and figure out how much you would be willing to spend for it, then you'll know right away. Occasionally, you can counter offer, but if they've got a long list to call, they're more likely to say no and move on. As others have noted, the AC and AB are really not basically the same suite at all. IMO, the suite you've got is an excellent one, so you won't be disappointed no matter what. Have a great time. beachchick
