myjulio888 Posted July 31, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2007 Has anyone snorkeled with the sea lions in La Pas?? Are there sharks around? I am going in October and have signed up for this excursion but have unfortunately been watching shark week on discover (big mistake!) and gotten a little freaked out. I can't find anything on the internet saying they are a big risk in the area but wondered if anyone has seen it first hand.

If they had pig week, ant week, or any other animal week, the Discovery channel would show the worst of the worst (actually more people are killed by pigs than sharks but I don't see people asking if they think it's safe to visit a farm :) ). If you didn't know the order of danger is: 1) your drive to the airport to go on your cruise 2) the plane to your cruise 3) the bus to the ship 4) the ship itself 5) the boat to get to the site 6) the local animals 7) the person you snorkel with then 8) sharks Hope this helps lessen you're being freaked out (and buckle up :D ). tootsiescurly Posted August 1, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2007 DH and I scuba dive in the place you will be snorkeling. Highly unlikely you will see a shark but if you do it will more than likely be a nurse shark which are rarely aggresive. Los Ilotes a sea lion rookery and in Dec and June you can actually see sea lions giving birth. The young sea lions - 6 to 12 months old - like to entertain. The sea lions are accustomed to human presence and frequently appear to be playing with the humans who dive and snorkle.
