Shore excursion in Key west

We will be crusing for the 1st time in Feb and saw a snorkeling excursion aboard "The Fury." We looked up their website and price for going through company itself was alot cheaper than going through the shore excursion on the ship. How likely is it that I could book this myself directly with the company for the same time period as the shore excursion and would I be able to get there on time since I would not get preferred/early departure for a shore excursion booked through RCI? Would transportation be difficult/expensive to get on my own???:)

Call them and ask. Many companies that have contracts with the cruise lines will not allow you to book with them as it is biting off the hand that feeds them. But some do. It doesn't hurt to ask.
