Vision of the Seas - November cruise

Have cruised Rhapsody of the Seas numerous times and love it, although an old ship. Is the Vision a nice ship? Does it have the new bedding I have been reading on here about? Is the Mexican Riviera itenereary enjoyable? What is the weather like in November? Lots of questions about this cruise.... Thanks so much!

I love the Vision, but I am biased as she was my first ship! I believe that it does have the new bedding. I like the Mexican Riviera - there is lots to do there - although the last sea day is always cool and rocky. I went at the beginning of November, and the weather in Mexico was hot and sunny. California was not hot, and I needed a light jacket.

Are you going this November? I am sailing the Vision on Nov. 11th.

How cool do you think the weather will be on the last sea day in October. My husband and I are sailing for our 25th anniversery on October 14th.

I've been in mid-May and early November. Don't expect to lay about suntanning on the last day! As soon as you pass Cabo, the winds pick up, and the ship has to fight the currents going up to LA. I had a light jacket and jeans on, as I recall.

All who have been on Vision of the Seas... Please tell us anything you can about her. We are going in November as well. DH, SIL, MIL and myself.

We have sailed with Celebrity but new to RCI!

I was on the Vision on the Chrismas cruise 2004. The day we left LA was about 85, the water was like glass the first day out and the pool area was packed there was no wind at all. The last two sea days on the return trip the wind had picked up and it was much cooler. I have been in LA other times in November and December and it has been down right hot. Others have said it can be on the cool side.

I have learned there are hair dryers and safes in the staterooms.. how about refrigerators? OV stateroom (deck 2)

Any specialty resturants on bord?

Does the compass tell you when everything is open and closed? ie bars, shops, casino?

Which bar is best for sitting, drinking and generally watching people. :p Yes mother in law and I are people watchers.

Anyone go on the Americas cup racing yacht in Mexico? How was it?

Is the Solarium pool really for adults only? Are there shady areas for people who can not be in the sun?

Any and all information about Vision OTS would greatly be appreciated!! :D

Do we dock at all ports?

Are there wheel chairs on board for passenger use? (Mother in law doesn't normally use one but she has ostiro. now.)

Does the casino use coins or "script"?

I don't think that there are fridges on deck 2. We didn't have one on deck 3. We had a safe, though.

There are no specialty restaurants.

The Compass will tell you everything, including the times of opening and closing.

Not sure on the bar - I liked the Some Enchanted Evening Lounge, but that was to see the shows. I found the Schooner Bar to be so smokey that I could not even sit down in it.

Haven't done the America's Cup, but people like it in the Caribbean.

The Solarium is for 16+. It is completely covered, so yes! Lots of shade!

Cabo is a tender port.

Not sure about wheelchairs or the casino - I might drop $20 in the slots, but I am not a gambler.

What November cruise are you going on?

My husband and I will be on Vision at the end of next March. We've never been to Los Angeles or the Pacific coast of Mexico. We're used to the heat of the Caribbean. What will the weather be like at the end of March, first week in April?

Dirt Girl,

I am also sailing on Nov 11 with my 23 year old son. I've done the Mex Riviera twice. It is a fun itinerary. Weather likely will be hot in Mexico, but as indicated by others, cool, windy and rocky on the last day at sea.

Have sailed on the Legend - a similar ship, but I usually do Celebrity with my husband and longer itineraries.

Sign up for meet and mingle (at the top of the post) and also try to locate the exact ship sailing on this post to talk with people who will be on the same sailing.

It is usually easy to hook up with people for shared cabs, excursions, dining, and just fun.

Alas, there seem to be no fridges on most of the decks, so I will plan to bring a small six pack cooler.

We've sailed the Mexican Riviera the last two Novembers and will be sailing again this year during Thanksgiving week. The weather has been awesome in Mexico, but as dirtgirl said, the first and last days can be cooler. If anyone is sailing Thanksgiving week, please join our roll call. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=411107

BTW, I read somewhere that the new bedding will be in place on the Vision well before November.

Thank you! We will pack a small cooler then. Have to keep the insulin cold. I will keep trying to find out about the wheelchair. I just don't think my mother in law can walk very far. I really want it for the ports so maybe we will borrow one and take it with us or rent one. Not sure. She will be visiting in a couple of days so we will ask her what she wants/needs to do.

Glad to hear about the solarium pool! Not that I don't like kids... I just like parts of the ship to be adults only. And the shade will be nice for MIL. We just want her to have a good time. This is her first ever cruise as well as my sister in law. They are as excited as we are and they don't have a clue what to expect! Will be fun to see thier faces when they actually see how big a cruise ship is.

We are going 11/4.

RCI has a special needs department - you might try calling them and asking if they have some kind of minifridge that you can use for you medications so save you the hassle of bringing on a cooler, and they should also be able to arrange for a wheelchair (sorry, I missed that in your first post). Check the website for the number or, if you booked with a TA, have him/her ask for you. Happy sailing!

wow had to go to page 5 to find this thread. I have another question. How much is a "soda card" on Vision of the Seas? What does that include? When we sailed last (6 years ago on Celeb.) pop was free. So this is new to us. Is it per day?

The soda card is for the week, and I think it's $6.00 for adults. Not sure of the charge for kids, maybe $4.50/day? So multiply that by the 7 days of the cruise for $42, and then I think they add a 15% gratuity (haven't ordered one, so I'm not usre). It's only good on fountain sodas, not cans. A can of soda costs $1.75 plus 15%, so if your habit is 3+ cans a day, then it would be worth it.
