Laffy Posted August 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2007 I have heard that to save on the high cost of staying overnight in Fort Lauderdale before a cruise, you should try staying in Florida City (about an hours drive south of FLL). This would require renting a car and driving down or taking a shuttle. I have checked out some of the recognized hotels and they are half the price of Fort Lauderdale. Has anyone tried this? What hotel did you stay at? How did you get from the Fort Lauderdale Airport (FLL) to Florida City? Thanx
Maryandi Posted August 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2007 You rent a car to get to Florida City, take Florida Turnpike south around Miami and at the end of the turnpike is Florida City. It's about 60 miles. Add up the cost of the hotel, rental car and gas to refill rental and you will probably equal the cost of a Ft. Lauderdale hotel. Have fun whatever you choose, MaryAnn
Bequia Posted August 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2007 There's far better values in the Ft Lauderdale suburbs that aren't as far away as Florida City. Besides, the selection of decent accomodations in Florida City is limited.

Somebody's kidding here. Rent a car, drive 130 miles roundtrip (110 of it on a toll road) with gas at $3 a gallon to save money? Florida City is a great place to stay if you're exploring Everglades National Park or the Upper Keys.
