CruiseIsGood Posted May 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Just wondering what the best non-fly fishing port would be in May and if anyone knows any independent companies for fishing. My cruise buddy wants to go next year and I know nothing about fishing. Thanks!
zebra Posted May 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Ketchikan by far!!!! We have fished there twice now. We were on the Diamond Princess May 8th - May 15th and they offered "Guided Fishing & Wilderness Dining" which is through Baranof Skiff Excursions. This is not fly-fishing. All I can say is that we have done many, many excursions and this was the MOST wonderful, awesome fishing excursion. We caught lots of fish and they cook your fish for you on a private island - the food was superb!! We caught rockfish, quillbacks and silver grays. The guide threw the extra 3 fish that we caught overboard for the Bald Eagles - and we were able to capture the whole flight and pickup of the fish on video - spectacular! I can't say enough good things about this company - they are the highest rated in Ketchikan. Until Millenium 9/6/2004 to Europe!

mbisson Posted May 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2004 CruiseIsGood It may depend on the fishing you want to do. Fresh or salt water? If salt water, salmon, halibut or bottom fish (rock fish, ling cod & such)? -Monte some of my cruising photos: http://community.webshots.com/user/m1bisson A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work. The worst cruise I ever took was pretty damned good. Platinum with RCI, a couple cruises with NCL and 1 with CCL Clock remove but cruise in Dec
