Excess OBC - getting cash back

Thanks for the suggestion about rebooking a cruise using the same reservation # so we could keep the OBC. But I was thinking more in terms of OBC that I give family members as gifts -- for cruises where they're not even taking me with them! How generous am I?? It's just such a simple and welcome gift, and RCI will fax you a confirmation so that you have something tangible to wrap. But I always wondered what would happen if they had to cancel the cruise after I had given them OBC. I'm sure someone here on CC will have the answer.

Will you adopt me constantcruiser? Or, if I am older than you, I can adopt you. Wouldn't it be nice to have Canadian relatives?? :D

This is not true. DH and I were just on Majesty of the Seas less than a month ago and wanted to take out cash at the casino against our sea pass cards so that we would get the points on our RCCL visa card, with the intention of just depositing the cash back into our bank accounts after we got off the cruise. However, when we took out the limit, they did not let us get cash, they gave it to us in chips and when we came back to the cashier with all of our chips with the intension to cash it out, they only credited it back to our sea pass account. No scam allowed. They specifically asked us what we were going to do with it.

My husband went on several different occasions on our last cruise and was able to get cash from the cashier. The first time the cashier asked if he was playing tables or slots. He just said tables and the guy turned over the cash. On the other times, they just handed him the money without question. Yes, we did take out enough that we brought some home. My FIL had put $2500 on our account as a gift and we knew there was no way we would ever spend that much onboard. Since we've previously been told by RCCL, that it was use it or lose it regarding the credit, we made sure we got the money, which had been rightfully given to us.

In June on Mariner of the Seas, I had no problem getting money from the casino, no questions asked. I was told also that you use it or loose it. I had $3.24 left did not bother with it. Like another post said, it was credited to their CC. I also had a credit. I am sailing in Sept on MOS, and will go to the casino and get most of the OBC in cash and leave some in as a cushion for misc.

I called RCL yesterday to specifically ask about their OBC policy and was told it could not be used for excursions. She said it had to be used for something ON THE SHIP. I meant to ask her also about tips but I forgot. Has anyone used OBC for tips?

I just called RCI yesterday concerning a price drop on one of our upcoming cruises. When the transaction was completed, and I had been granted the price reduction, the agent sent me an E-mail with a copy of the current updated invoice. On that invoice there was a line item for our current OBC amount.

If you have a question as to whether your OBC deposits, TA granted OBC, or stockholders benefit OBC, it should all show up on that invoice.

I should note, you are not able to see it on the website, but the agents have the information available to them.

Okay, I just got off the phone with Keisha from The Resolutions Department. She told me that a Gift Certifcate purchased online from RCCL can be used for anything onboard that you would use your SeaPass account for. It can be used for tips, shore excursions, casino, etc.

If there's a balance at the end of the cruise, you will receive the credit back in the same form you purchased the certificate. If you used your credit card to purchase your certificate, then the credit would go back to your credit card; if you used cash, then you'd get cash back.

I then asked her if I could take cash from my SeaPass to use in port. She put me on hold and called Anna from Onboard Credits who said no that I couldn't take cash out.

I hope this helps anyone else who was confused.

On our most recent cruise in July on Liberty of the Seas, we took cash out of the casino on our seapass cards to play roulette. After playing, I turned in the chips from the roulette wins, and received cash back. When we took money out, they asked if we were using it for slots or tables. I'm not quite sure why, unless they give vouchers for slots and cash for table games. We have our seapass paid with our Discover card, and any purchases, whether cash back from the casino or excursions or onboard purchases, do give us back our % cashback awards. We have never tried to take out the maximum amount daily, mainly because I would never want to travel with that much cash! Besides that, on returning to the states, you must declare if you're bringing back over a certain amount of cash........
