You know I didn't even vote....I was busy discussing if we need to have gasoline in our lives.....LOL!!!!:D

don't close the poll....let me go and vote

Sandy, I have followed the debate about gasoline being a necessity or not and found it very interesting. I honestly do not see its relevance to this thread though. Whether Carnival can reduce their cost in providing soda by what ever means has no bearing on how Carnival will price soda sales. And when I say pricing I mean inclusive, soda card or ala carte...or any other means one might think of.

Every business seeks to reduce costs, and to maximize revenue. They do so, as I know you are well aware, for the purpose of maximizing profit. I understand the feelings of those who think it is just nickle and diming but they have other choices. Most don't seem to want to pay the premium other lines charge to have soda included.

Hi Rob:

I know how goods and services were transported before the modern age. But what I'm trying to say is that in the modern society we live in now, gasoline/natural gas/crude oil, etc HAVE become a necessity for all of us. Could you really go about your daily business riding in a horse and buggy, growing all your food, keeping a cow for milk, etc? I know I couldn't and I somehow doubt you could either.:D

Ohhh and by the way, my town is quite large.....I live in NY City.:p So yes we do have alternate fueled vehicles.

Sandi,

You've hit the nail on the head! Gas isn't a necessity. It's a necessity to MAINTAIN OUR CURRENT STANDARD of living.

Yes that's right, our current standard of living. We could do without it, if we wanted to live like pioneers but it would be very very difficult to do. I doubt any of us would want to live like that. So in essence for all of our lifestyles it is a "necessity" in a certain sense.

With all the questions about Soda Cards, I want to see how other cruisers actually feel about them.

When my husband found out that we have to pay for soda on our cruise where food and entertainment are free, he was confused and disappointed.

We've committed ourselves to drinking water throughout the duration of the cruise. I'm not spending my excursion money on soda. In my opinion, charging for Soft Drinks is gouging.

What about you?

go on Disney. It's free!

I think soda cards are fair and a great deal...I wish they would have an alcohol card, pay $20 $30 or $40 a day for each day of your cruise and get as much alcohol as you want!!!

Just a thought...Kind of puts the soda card in perspective doesn't it? :D

True, True!!! Soda might be free but the price of the cruise was well over $1,500 more per cruise than Carnival. Hence, I think I'll just pay the additional $35 if I want to drink soda!  ;)

I hear ya! The op was complaining about being price gouged for soda. Going Disney you get free soda and get gouged for the cruise fare!

Plenty of options for me on CCL to avoid soda. Always drink lemonade. My wife likes to get a 2/3 glass of iced tea and top it off with lemonade.

My son is the only one who gets the soda card. I might buy 1 or 2 during the week if I'm at the show or something.

I just think that a lot of the people that have gripes with the extras they charged for have no idea what it cost to cruise say 15-20 years ago.

Comparatively speaking cruises are a very good bargain.

Now they keep the prices low for the masses and the rest is sort of like ala carte. Works for me as I don't want to subsidize somebody elses cruise.

I didn't vote in this poll. How much brain power does it take to decide that if you think the card is too expensive-----DO NOT BUY IT.

The rash of ill conceived polls lately is unbelievable.

I am all about freedom of posting, but I have to agree...It shouldn't be that difficult. Buy the soda card or don't buy it. It works out to about $4-5 per day right? It isn't anything to get your knickers in a knot.

does that mean they should charge an entry fee to the Casino for people

When I leave the Carnival casino, I wish they had just charged me an entry fee, and then I'd leave. :)
