Gypsy509 Posted May 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2004 I have been reading all these posts now for over seven months... what I have gathered is that we should dress in layers, have water proof or resitsnt clothing. But more importantly; the fact that it is going to be cold. Well living in Florida, we never have cold, but I like it and the temps I have seen lately for Vancouver and ports are 60's this is not cold to me .....Am I missing something? Yukon Posted May 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2004 If you get into a situation where there's a wind blowing off a glacier towards you, it will be cold, I assure you. Low 40s is certainly possible, and the fact that it's damp cold makes it feel much colder. Murray
CruiseIsGood Posted May 18, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I didn't find the ports cold the last two years. But yes, open sea is cold and near the glaciers will be cold. You can see them through the windows, but I found it more exciting to be on deck. Shore excursions on the water can also be chilly. Just bring a waterproof coat (pants optional) since it can rain a lot, especially in Ketchikan. Denise
Sea Turtle Posted May 21, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2004 Gypsy509-- Other than wind/rain jacket & pants and a fleece pullover I cruised with the same clothes I wear here in Tampa Bay. The only time I needed the fleece along with the jacket was late in the afternoon on deck or on the balcony. I also was glad to have lightweight gloves I brought from home and a rain hat I bought in Ketchikan while on the balcony for extended periods. But like you I like the cold and wore shorts often while in Alaska in 2003 (wish I had known to bring shorts when I first cruised Alaska in 2000). You're almost there!! Enjoy!
