Carnival Young Adult Activities- Any Better?

My fam cruised first time summer 05 with 3 kids then 19, 16, 13. The two younger ones had a great time with teen activities, but there were absolutely zero activities for the 19 year old to meet others his age. He had a lousy time, too young to drink (after completing his freshman year in college where its overflowing), no activities geared to his age.

 

I'm considering another cruise next summer but now my second one will be the 19 year old and I'm concerned he'll have the same experience. ANYONE out there with young adults 18+ with Carnival? I really voiced my disappointment with this aspect on my comment card, so I was hoping there might be an improvement in the 2 years since our cruise. I'd appreciate anyone's input on this. Thanks.

A 19 year old can participate in any activities the older adults can (with the possible exception of drinking, I'm not sure of the drinking age on ships). They can swim, read a book, play bingo, watch the shows, play the on board games, shop, hit the arcade, go to the art auction, go to afternoon tea, work out in the gym, play mini golf, visit the casino, go dancing at the disco, etc, etc, etc.

 

I'm not sure why people expect Carnival to provide special activities for the 18-21 year old set - once you're 18, you can pretty much go on your own and do as you like.

They have more fun wih a friend along. Have him bring a friend. :)

I totally agree with you. Our son had a great time but, not knowing who was 18 to 20 was definitely a down fall. I spoke to them at the pursers desk, to the cruise directors, mentioned it on the comment card and I wrote to Carnival when I got home. I suggested that they should have some sort of activity in the beginning of the cruise, like a volley ball or basketball game for those ages 18 to 20 so they can at least me others their own age. I would recommend taking a friend a long, that would make it more fun. Hopefully, Carnival will make changes in the future.

You're right-my DD is 19, and this is the age where they are too old and too young. Happened to my older DD also. My DD did Camp Carnival for so many years with wonderful activities, and now that she is 19, there are no organized activities. She was a bit bored on our cruise in May on the Imagination. We ended up doing the trivia, name that tune, bingo, art auctions, etc. It was great quality mother-daughter time, but it would have been nice for my DD to find her own age group.
