Taxi from Montreal Airport to Hotel w US dollars

We will be flying to Montreal airport next week. Can you get a taxi and pay with US dollars? We were planning on using the ATM in Montreal and not in the airport. Can we get good rates of exchange in the airport ATM?

Taxis will accept USD or credit cards.

 

There are a number of bank run ATMs in the Montreal airport. (Mostly upstairs, Bank of Montreal and Desjardins come to mind). The ATMs do not determine the exchange rate, your bank does, but at the interbank rate, usually. Most of the ATMs will have a $1 or $1.50 charge for non-client transactions.

 

The ATM is usually the best exchange rate because it's done at interbank rates.

Use the ATM at Airport. All ATMs give good rate of exchange.

You won't get a good rate of exchange at the Airport exchange booth & the taxi driver won't give you a good rate.

ATM has always been my first choice to get best rate.

Credit card companies get extra 1% - 1.5%.

Actually, the credit card companies usually take 3% now.

The currency rate is currently 1 US $ = 1.06 Canadian . I think that you may want to just give the taxi US dollars at par. ( In some parts of Ontario the stores are at par) You can then visit a bank while you are visiting in Montreal for larger amounts.
