Suggestions for Mykonos

Recommended Posts

Wondering if it makes sense to stay near the port on Mykonos, try to go to another part of the island or even go to another nearby island in the 6-8 hours I have there from the Galaxy. Any ideas?

The only other island near Mykonos is Delos, and the cruise line will be running excursions there anyway.

We've been to Mykonos twice, and it's one of my favourite places. in 2006 (first visit) we went ashore quite late, after lunch in fact (the ship - Galaxy - didn't dock until 10:30 and stayed until 11pm). We wandered around the town for an hour or so, got ourselves delightfully lost a couple of times, then took a local bus to Platys Gialos (a family beach) on the south of the island and spent the afternoon there - extremely enjoyable. We had intended to pretty much repeat this on the second visit (late June this year) but it was so hot that apart from a very brief detour to the windmills we went straight to the beach in the morning and stayed there for lunch. Then we came back to town after lunch, had a beer in Katerina's Bar in Little Venice, and at about 3pm went back to the ship where we cooled down for a while & then went up on deck for the sail-away in late afternoon.

We have spoken to other people who hired quad bikes and did some exploration with them, and had a great time doing so. Mykonos is quite small, so with transport you can get from one side of the island to the other pretty quickly. The bus rides that we did, for example, were barely 10 minutes each time, and that was going pretty slowly.

In the daytime it's a relaxed, lazy place - the perfect chill-out Aegean island. After dark it's a different matter, but cruise passengers don't really get to experience that. In any case you need to be 20 and impossibly beautiful. Male or female doesn't matter, but being 20 and beautiful does!

My husband and I rented a quad bike last Oct. and it was great. It cost 25 euros for the whole day,and we were able to see everything on the island.Even found Shirley Valentine Beach!

Take the ships bus to the parking lot. Go up the stairs, and cross the street. There is where you get the quads. Don't forget an international license. You can get one at AAA before you go for about $18.00. It is agreat day/. have fun
