Why Are There So Many Passengers If It Is So Awful???

 If I had not sailed with Celebrity before, after reading these posts, here is what I would think of cruising...

-The coffee sucks

-The food sucks

-Customer service is awaful

-There is too much cigarette smoke

-There is not enough cigarette smoke,

-There are too many cigars onboard

-There are not enough cigars on board

-The dress code is too strict

-The dress code is not enforced enough

-I should be upgraded to the Penthouse Suite for $50.

-The staterooms are too small

-I should be able to anything I want on my verandah

It's a wonder there are any people left on Celebrity ships given how awful it is.

Oh Well, more room for ME!

Just think, if the points you emphasized were accurate across the board, then

You can fool all of the people all of the time;)

and Conde Nast travel survey must had 'flipped' the cruise ratings upside-down when listing Celebrity at top.;)

and other cruise lines must get all the saintly considerate pleasant pax and service staff.;)

and as Yogi said "Celebrity is so crowded, nobody goes there anymore".;)

My next "penance" on X is Dec 16 Millenium - I better enjoy myself now before I board.

Bravo, NorCal!! Well put! Lola's mom is right, of course. We pay a LOT of money for our cruises and wish them to be perfect. But... can anything and everything ever really be perfect?? The good really does outweigh the bad!! Whenever I complain too much, my dad always says, "I complained that I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet." Always puts it into perspective for me....and grateful to be on ANY cruise -- bad coffee and all!:D

okok lets push celebrity is really bad don't go and we can all get suites for upgrades LOL LOL

Tonia

i know what your saying though.. i had said this before.. if the only thing i could find wrong was the coffee, and a few other things... then they should stay home in their own little world ,,,

i enjoy my cruise.. no matter what because ... one i am not home doing lanudry, cooking cleaning... i don't have to make my bed, someone is there to help me with whatever i need, and not making a werid face when i ask... or having selective hearing LOL LOL ... and i am on VACATION...

I think Celebrity is GREAT! I think some people get bored and start whining about this and that. I had a fantastic time on the Constellation. A perfect Cruise. Can't wait to smoke a cigar on my Cruise set to sail in February.:D

We do not think everyone thinks Celebrity is bad. We like them, otherwise we would not be sailing with them. There are probably people who would complain about any thing never finding good always finding fault.;) Not that things are always perfect but one learns to adjust and not let small things throw you for a loop.

I love Celebrity:) . I went on my first cruise with them in June and had a fantastic time. On board, I spoke with a lot of experienced cruisers who had nothing but great things to say about Celebrity. So....I've booked two more with them. I guess some people are hard to please...

If you look at the other cruise line boards you see mostly the same thing. Complainers post more than those who are satisfied. Take it all with a grain of salt or might that be a coffee bean in this case

You've just described the user comments to most any resort. No resort or cruiseline is perfect (Celebrity included) so we tend to discount the reviews of people who hate everything or love everything and try to find some comfort in the middle. People who hated everything obviously have their own special issues but I also don't trust people who said that every single thing was perfect.

First of all, people are much more likely to post or write a letter when they are dissatisfied compared to when they are happy. Negativity will always be over re-presented.

Second, Cruise Critic has a very small group of resident "Negatives" who post the same complaints 10+ times in each and every topic.

I have tremendously enjoyed each and every Celebrity cruise I have taken (despite some things going wrong every now and then) and can't wait until I board my next cruise :D

Best Regards,

Floris

I just got off a Northbound Alaska cruise on the Summit - and it was fabulous. Nothing is perfect - and I have to tell you, that vacation was so relaxing, it's 2 weeks later - and I'm still worthless at work:eek: (I am, of course, making the assumption that I WASN'T worthless before I went on vacation - and I would like y'all to just go with me on that one....). They took care of everything - and if I could figure out a way to bring my cabin attendant home with me, I would have done so. That woman just ROCKED!!! The coffee was fine - and the lattes were exceptional. Everything was good, except one day of weather that cancelled an excursion - but I truly can't find a way to blame anyone for that. As it was, we read, napped, walked around, had a massage - does it get any better than that???? I tend to like ground vacations (that really bad seasickness problem) - but if we cruise again, Celebrity will be right at the top of our choices with Crystal. There are still some places that, to me, seem to be "cruise" destinations, and we have just never been so relaxed from a vacation before.....:D

Obviously, many people are masochistic and want to be abused!!!!!;)

I am one of them, and cannot wait until my next painful experience in November.:D

If we do not complain then clearly Celebrity will not fix it.

As ddonalds says, nothing is perfect, but if we complain then may be it will be fixed.

Complaining on CC might help alert other would be cruisers and prompt them to ask for something to be improved. True there are regular critics with their pet hobby horses.

Mine happens to be the dirty decks and abysmal library, both easy for X to fix and my TA is contacting them on these matters.

As for why do we continue to cruise? Well, overall it still offers good value for money and beat fly-by-air hands down. I would also rather someone else did the driving too.

-The coffee sucks TRUE most of the time.

-The food sucks FALSE but varies from one cruise to the next

-Customer service is awful VERY Inconsistent and not up to the standards set by the on board experience

-There is too much cigarette smoke TRUE if you are a non-smoker in the casino, Smoke always makes its way to the non-smoker.

-There is not enough cigarette smoke, You have to keep on puffing but they're a dying breed.

-There are too many cigars onboard TRUE, there has to be a way to tie the smokers into the funnel exhaust.

-There are not enough cigars on board Fortunately

-The dress code is too strict It's posted so why book if you disagree but it's not enforced so calm down!!

-The dress code is not enforced enough It's changing along with the ship demographic. Azamara might be a precursor..

-I should be upgraded to the Penthouse Suite for $50. A free upgrade on Celebrity is as frequent as winning at bingo in under 50 numbers.

-The staterooms are too small. Guests are too large.

-I should be able to anything I want on my veranda Some do:o

It's a wonder there are any people left on Celebrity ships given how awful it is.

Most readers on this board know that you ignore the bleakest and rosiest of posts. The truth lies somewhere in between. Every cruise line has its camp followers and detractors. Anyone who limits themselves to one line is denying themselves wonderful experiences elsewhere. There are many things that can detract from a wonderful experience. Just hope that your pick is the perfect one for your taste.

Folks just tend to comment on things that don't meet their expectations rather than things that do. We usually accept the positive aspects as natural or routine, but voice our opinions when the reverse occurs.

Mary

I think folks mention whenever their expectations were not met or were exceeded. if i boarded and my luggage was already at the room, I'd be impressed and I'd mention that. If it came some time in the afternoon or early evening, I likely would not mention it. If it showed up the second day, I'd mention it.

I don't think that folks who offer critical reviews are whiners so much as they're pointing out things for others so they can avoid or accommodate certain shortcomings.

The food didn't suck to us, and even better that I didn't have to cook and clean up!

I haven't had to deal with customer service personally (yet).

Any smoke (cig or cigar) is too much for me, so I just move away from it.

I do wish the dress code were actually enforced, but I try to just worry about me and my family complying.

I would love an upgrade for $50, but I certainly don't expect it.

If the cabin is large enough for a bed and bathroom, it's large enough for me, a I'm only in there to sleep and clean up.

I would consider myself lucky to have a verandah.

Different strokes.......

Hi Floris,

I agree with you about there are always a few people who are negative about everything. In reading this board, I would also say that there are many, with thousands of posts, who do make up the other side of the story. These folks try to minimize any and all valid complaints against their favorite cruise line and never want to talk about any problems that their favorite cruise line may have. IMHO, it then is up to the reader to tell which is which, when looking for valid information.

To answer the original question of the OP, I think that Celebrity spends a lot of money on saturation advertising to draw in more and more first time cruisers. So far this seems to be working and therefore repeat business is not a high priority with Celebrity.
