spl0731 Posted August 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2007 After enjoying Aruba so much on our honeymoon, DH and I are going to be spending a week in Aruba soon. Does anyone have restaurant suggestions? I have heard about the Flying Fishbone, Mme Janette, and El Gaucho. I would also like to try some more local food, and some slightly less tourist-trap like places. We are staying at the Marriott Renaissance, so I'll report back with a review. Also, has anyone heard of the Aruba "Dine Around" program? We're trying to figure out if it is a good deal or not. Many thanks in advance
ctsoapfan Posted August 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2007 Madame Janette and El Gaucho are definitely not tourist traps... both restaurants are excellent and they are a great value! The tourist traps are the hotel restaurants, stay away from those.
Arubalisa Posted August 28, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2007 IMO- off the beaten path Bingo Linda's Pancakes & Pizza's (they serve other meals too) Pannekoekhuis (Dutch Pancakes) No where near off the beaten path, but new: Gianni's- Italian cuisine, new place getting lots of "buzz" I am sure you have dined at some of these already- but worth a mention Que Pasa? Passions Rumba bar & grill Matthews Fishes & More Pinchos Grill & Bar The Promenade Aruba Destiny Casa Tua Salt and Pepper Tulip Restaurant Chef's Table For Aruban cuisine, we have been going to Gasparito's for years. Reccommened it to an Aruban friend and she emailed me that her entire family LOVED it. Keshi Yena was better than her own Mom's and Mom admitted it. Dine Around Plan is not worth it, unless you are BIG eaters and then are willing to pay for all of the extras. Read the fine print before you buy. Also check out Aruba Discount Coupons For more restaruant info and reviews www.RestaurantsAruba.com and Aruba Restaurants. CFULTON99 Posted August 28, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2007 We tried the Driftwood, walking distance from the pier. It is a fish restautant, where the menu is based on what was caught that day. It is the freshest fish I have had in a while. info: Driftwood Klipstraat 12 Oranjestad Tel: +(297) - 583 2515 Fax: +(297) - 587 2321 Enjoy

spl0731 Posted August 29, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted August 29, 2007 Thanks everyone, especially ArubaLisa for the big list of places. We actually took a cruise on our Honeymoon, so were only in Aruba one night. We plan on trying El Gaucho and either Mme Janettes or Suisse Chalet. We would like to keep our other 3 nights more low-key. Gasparitos sounds good. What should we try for the other 2 nights, hopefully a bit less expensive?
