Question for past New Zealand cruisers

Recommended Posts

We are on the Sapphire Princess on the 6th Jan 05( New Zealand /Australia)
It is summertime but I have been told I will need warm clothes for New Zealand.
Anyone done a similar cruise who could advise me. Thamks.

What to pack for day wear...jeans and long sleeve tops or jeans and short sleeve tops?

January is smack dab in the middle of their summer, but New Zealand can have very changeable weather. I would bring a mix of clothes, similar to what you bring for an Alaska cruise. Jeans, cotton slacks, long sleeved shirts, and definitely a jacket of some kind. While it won't be as cold as it can be when cruising Alaska's glaciers, it can be chilly. Layering clothes is the best idea.

Another to remember is that it rains A LOT in NZ, even in their summer. We were there at the end of January this year, and on our last day in Auckland, it rained really hard for hours. Luckily, it started raining at the end of our day-long tour, but our transportation to the airport was delayed.

You might want to bring a light raincoat and/or umbrella.
