JimVrhovac Posted August 29, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2007 If you do not drink it in the dining room or the bars they will deliver it to your room last night of the cruise and you can take it home with you. Ruth & Jim
mllewis48 Posted August 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2007 We have done this before and plan to do it again however you will find out that you can buy the same wines at any stateside wine shop for much much less than what HAL charges. You generally pay around $25 to $30 for each bottle onboard and you can usually buy it for around $10 to $12 off ship. If you buy it off ship and take it to the dining room you end up paying the corkage fee of $18 so you're better off to buy it onboard if you prefer wine. Marmarjudy Posted August 30, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2007 Details please? How do we find out about this, how/when do we sign up, do we have to ask for it, is it available on all HAL ships? Thanks, Judy
JimVrhovac Posted August 30, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2007 Available on all HAL ships. If you sail out of Florida wait until you have left port and are at sea otherwise you will be charged state sales tax (7%). Can sign up at any bar or in the dining room. Can get bottle in the bar and then have them recork it and save it for the next night if you wish.... Ruth and Jim
lb0103 Posted August 30, 2007 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2007 I didn't know about the 7% tax in FL on the ship, I know FL taxes everything they can, we just came back from Cocoa Beach. Will we still have to pay that tax if we leave port at 5PM, Tampa our next stop is the next morning in Key West, FL. Can we order it at dinner, "at sea" with no tax? JimVrhovac Posted August 30, 2007 #8 Share Posted August 30, 2007 Until the ship leaves port and is outside the 3 mile limit you will be charged the state sales tax. Remember though, we do not have an income tax.... Ruth and Jim
lb0103 Posted August 30, 2007 #9 Share Posted August 30, 2007 Thanks for the info we have late dining so we should be more than 3 miles out. FYI, in NH we DO NOT have sales tax OR an income tax, but you don't want to hear about our property taxes. LOL, they got you one way or the other.
