thuyronald Posted September 3, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2007 I was wondering if anyone know what the situation is with Olympia. I'll be visiting Katakolon in three weeks and was planning to rent a car to drive to Olympia. However, with the recent fire, I'm not sure if we can still drive to it. I've heard that it has re-opened, but are not sure if this is correct. Does anyone know? I'll check and see if our ship will be going there or bypassing it due to the awful situation. ShipsandDipper Posted September 4, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2007 John Heald (Cruise Director with Carnival Freedom) reported on his blog that Olympia is open for visitors as of last week. He reprinted an official release saying that the site was open, the museum was open, roads were accessible and utilities were working.
sunraiser Posted September 9, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Thuyronald, We just got back last night. If you want to go to Olympia from the port, you can now take train from the port. It only cost a few euros for a round-trip ticket. It is very convenient! It is a very short walk from the port to the train station, and from Olympia to the train station. We saw some burnt trees on the way to Olympia.
eh2zed Posted September 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Great to hear it is open. Was there in May and was an emotional highpoint of our holiday. The train is a great idea.
thuyronald Posted September 10, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted September 10, 2007 Thanks everyone for your help. Sunraiser, the train idea sounds good. However, we're only in Katakolon from 9 to 2:30 p.m., so I don't know if the train schedule would work for us. Do you know how often the train goes back and forth from Katakolon to Olympia? sunraiser Posted September 10, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2007 Thuy, The train may not be a good idea for you, if you are only in port from 9-2:30pm. You may not have enough to catch the train. I forgot the train schedule, but I will ask my family on this issue.
