jlines Posted September 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2007 I have read that once the POH reaches LA she will undergo a 7 day refit and then reflag as the NCL Jade. In checking scheduling I see the PC cruise then the transatlantic cruise which arrives in BCN on March 13th. I am looking at booking the March 30th sailing but what happens between the 13th and the 30th? Is the sailing on the 30th a for sure cruise? I know sometimes with a new build there are delays which cancels a cruise but how about with a refit? Since the cruise ends in a different port it would be difficult to change plans if I get airfare now so what does anyone think - is this cruise a safe bet and should I book? jlines Posted September 6, 2007 Author #2 Share Posted September 6, 2007 I called NCL last night and got the answer to my question. It seems like the Jade will undergo 2 drydocks - one in LA and then another 17 day one in BCN. So now the question is is it too cool to cruise the Med in April? Fishbait17 Posted September 6, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2007 I depends on what your plans are for the Med. We sailed the Greek Isles in April, and it was a fantastic trip.. The weather was perfect for touring and sightseeing, but not ideal for those who wanted to just sit on a beach and swim. I also cruised the Med in August, and for sightseeing, I would take April anytime over the summer, especially if your itinerary includes Athens or Ephessus. It's just too hot in the summer for me. SweetpeaOne Posted October 8, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2007 When is the last cruise in Hawaii for the POH? Will she do a repo cruise from Hawaii to L.A.? Thanks
Brucemcdou Posted October 8, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 8, 2007 When is the last cruise in Hawaii for the POH? Will she do a repo cruise from Hawaii to L.A.? Thanks Her last 7-day Hawaii cruise is 1/28, followed by a 5-day repo cruise from HNL to LA February 4th. We're booked on the 5-day repo; they are offering fantastic prices for that cruise. Then there's a 7-day refurb in LA or somewhere in Southern California, although I've seen nothing definitive about what will be done - I presume the hull art, name, and MAYBE install the casino. frequent cruiser jock Posted October 8, 2007 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2007 They will only change the name and hulla art in Los Angeles and some minor cosmetic changes, for the Casino she needs a longer refit, since there are currently cabins and they have to get taken out. That is the reason she will be for a dry dock in Europe, where she will be finally transformed into the Jade!
garycarla Posted October 8, 2007 #9 Share Posted October 8, 2007 The casino information is fairly important to some folks. I would be upset taking the Trans Atl, or even the LA to Miami expecting it to be there. Hmmmm.....
SkystheLimit Posted October 8, 2007 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2007 We sailed on the first cruise after the major refit of Celebrity's Century last year. As the time drew near, many of us questioned whether the ship would be ready to sail from Barcelona. Those arriving in BCN the morning of sailing were treated to a complimentary bus tour of Barcelona because the ship was not ready. She did sail but it was still a work in progress. Many plumbing issues, television/communications/lights working off and on. We did not have issues in our cabin but many did. The spa cafe was completed during the cruise. Our itinerary was great with many exhausting days of sightseeing so we weren't bothered by some things as much as others. If we had been on board just for the ship experience, I think it would have been a bit of a disappointment.

linwood77 Posted October 8, 2007 #12 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Its my understanding that there is a meeting room not cabins where the casino will be. I am curious if there will be a golf putting course. All cabins on deck 6, 44 in all, will be removed to make room for the casino. The casino will be located between the Stardust Theater and the Corona Cigar Club & Le Bistro Restaurant on deck 6 where the Cat. C & KK cabins are now. Compare the deck plans of the Pride of Hawaii and the Norwegian Jade on NCL.com for more info.
garycarla Posted October 8, 2007 #13 Share Posted October 8, 2007 If the layout of the casino on the Jewel and the POH are in the same place, then it is cabins that have to be removed. check out deck six forward. Of course, some of this work can be done before the transition, everything up to opening the casino, if they want to that is. And of course some of this work would be detrimental to passengers. http://booking.destinationoceans.com/travel/cruise/shipdeck.rvlx?ShipID=264&DeckID=20166&printable=1 http://booking.destinationoceans.com/travel/cruise/shipdeck.rvlx?ShipID=231&DeckID=21451&printable=
