Land Vs Cruise when it comes to cost $$

Check out to see if there is a "Not So Scary Mickey Halloween Party" at Magic Kingdom on the night you will be there (7pm-midnight). We just went to the Pirate/Princess party at Magic Kingdom and the lines were non-existent. It was the BEST way to do MK. And the prices are really cheap...$39 per adult. The 1 year old would be free. Any 1 year old would go gaga over the MK rides like Pooh Bear, Snow White, Peter Pan, It's a Small World. All of the rides are more like experiences. So you would be able to hold him on your lap. They are built that way.

I looked into this and it seems perfect but I can't believe it's only $39 and you get dinner and the rides? And even better we can do it at night after DH is done with his class.

No dinner. Just ticket into event, Magic Kingdom and all of the rides. Free goodies. Parades. Fireworks. etc

I couldn't believe it either when someone here suggested us doing it in August for the Princess/Pirate party but they were 100% correct.

They are special events. Advanced ticket price is $38.95 for 10 and up. $32.95 for 3 and up. 2 and under, free. The park is closed to those who don't have the event ticket. And the event ticket is ALL you need to get into Magic Kingdom that night. The rides are open. There are parades and fireworks going on (at least 2 parades).

The shuttles run till 1am, so they can take you to and from MK.

When you get there, the entrance is all specially decorated for the party. We ended up getting a velvet treasure bag and a map to search for treasure. It will be different for the Halloween party.

Then they give you a special "Photo Pass"....they take your picture all over the park and you have 30 days to view them online and purchase them.

And no lines! That was the best part. We could have ridden the most popular rides over and over again, usually we wait up to an hour on a normal day.

Here is the link to the event. There are a few dates where the advanced tickets are blacked out.

And back to cruising? Ok, I REALLY like Disney, but I really didn't like the Disney cruise. It's cute. They do keep the adult sections ADULT. They do not allow the kids into the adult dining venues at all (unlike RCCL who will make exceptions). And the adult only pool IS adult only. The shows are the best I have seen. The problems I had was with the service, just wasn't impressed with the dining room servers (many are, I know...maybe we had a bad batch). The shopping onboard was just 2 small Disney stores. There is no casino. I am NOT a gambler by any stretch of the imagination but it's nice to be able to feed a few slot machines at night when nothing else is going on. So I found myself looking for things to do at night. And for the price we paid for a Cat 6 on Disney Magic, we got a grand suite on the biggest ship on the sea (Freedom of the Seas). And the perks that come with the suites on RCCL beat anything on any other cruiseline, no doubt.

I guess I always say it's nice to do ONCE. I have friends that go on the Wonder/Magic EVERY year. She says she feels like she would be "cheating on Mickey" if she did anything else. I think she's crazy because she is missing out on so many other great ships.

Thanks, Michele -- that's probably exactly how I would feel onboard, and the reason I haven't gone before mostly was because I know just how much cabin (or how many cruises!) I could get on other lines for the money. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. :)

How tied are you to RCCL? With a little searching around, you can find balcony rooms on other lines for about $1000 less. One trick when cruising Alaska is to look at the end of August (or even early September if school is not an issue). They prices are a little lower, and the scenery is a LOT better, IMHO. At this time of year you can almost always see spawning salmon (which brings out the bears), the whales are still feeding and in the area, and the waterways to the glaciers are almost always accessible.

MichellP - yep, I am trying to justify it again now that the youngest just turned 3, but I just can't.

sas80 - Let's go! :D

Michele, I've just started poking around the family website and you seem to have the most fabulous life on holidays all the time. Can I be you for a while??

Although can we wait until after the Med cruise I am doing with my family next month? (haha)

LOL! Well I wish my actual family felt that way. My kids do, but everyone else thinks I'm nuts. ;) Even my husband. :p

And to MichelleP - an update....my oldest traded Disney in for Liberty of the Seas. How happy am I? Wahooo! :)

Nope, I am one of those bad parents that pull the kids out of school to travel. ;) :D

We travel on the kids' birthdays, so April will be Gabriella's 4th birthday.

MichellP - Well I already did Freedom and I LOVED LOVED LOVED it! The best ship ever! So there's my review. ;) :D
