RMVET Posted September 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Depending on which organization you question, you frequently get a mix of responses as to what immunizations are recommended or required for passengers taking the QE2 World Cruise starting January 13, 2008. So far we are hearing that we need the following immunications: Flu shot Tetnus Hepititus A (and possibly B) Yellow Fever (because we are stopping in Brazil) Has anyone heard differently? NomDePlume Posted September 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Hi Grace, I posted this link to the Center for Disease Control on the Worldcruise thread earlier: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/default.aspx This should give you all the info you need... ColumbiaSC Posted September 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2007 I have taken (or will take), as was recommended by the Public Health Department, whose nurse went online to look at each country I was to visit from Jan 13 to April 12, 2008, the following: Flu Shot (upcoming) Yellow Fever Tetanus Diptheria Typhoid Hep A (not Hep B as port calls are brief and limited on QE2) Two of the above shots come combined into one shot -- Tetanus and Diptheria, perhaps (I forget). That's it! I had no reaction or problem with taking them all at one sitting. The cost was about $220.
durangoscots Posted September 5, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Yellow fever is required and I will be getting my annual flu shot and also the Hep A in addition. Since we are not going into the interior and given our ports, I will not get Typhoid shot or Hep B. Tetnus is recommended and mine was last year .... otherwise I would get it also. juliecat Posted September 5, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Please reconsider and get the typhoid shot! It's just not worth the risk. My 35 year old brother-in-law almost died of typhoid he contacted after eating a sandwich with a slice of fresh tomato in Bali. He didn't go to a doctor until he was home in Virginia and sweating out liters of fluid. It took quite a while to get a proper diagnosis; luckily they called in a tropical medicine specialist from the University and she was able to diagnose him. He is now registered as a potential carrier with the CDC and cannot work in food service for the rest of his life (small loss). J

NomDePlume Posted September 6, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 6, 2007 There is so much excellent information being shared here and there, but it is getting confusing shuffling from one thread to the other--would it be possible to keep it organized on the ad hoc thread--in this case the World Cruise one? It's right here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=383022
Buddy604 Posted September 6, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2007 I always get the standard spectrum: TETANUS / DIPHTHERIA / POLIO HEPATITIS A & HEPATITIS B MENINGOCOCCAL MENINGITIS TYPHOID (Injectable) YELLOW FEVER CHOLERA is usually not medically indicated since the pills don't work all that well. I'm not sure if you need to worry about JAPANESE ENCEPHALITIS and MENINGOCOCCAL CONJUGATE C. There are a couple of double up shots, like TWINRIX (Hep A & Hep B) and VIVAXIM (Hep A & Typhoid) for people who like to keep the needles down!
