cruisin'sz Posted September 6, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2007 I have a couple of questions about driving this road - I've already learned that it's something I want to do clockwise....Now, About how much time do I need to travel the whole road with stops? Any good breakfast and/or lunch spots along the way? Any bathrooms along the road? What's not to miss on this road? Have you done this "forbidden" highway with your rental car? Thanks. Thanks. jerseyjk Posted September 6, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2007 About how much time do I need to travel the whole road with stops? That's up to you. We left after breakfast' date=' spent a few hours in Lahaina including lunch, quick stop around Kaanapali at a beach, stopped at Nakele, Olivine Pools and a little art gallery/shop. We were back at the ship around 3pm I think. You could make it a full day with a couple more stops (the Revealed book came in handy) or shorter with shorter stops (less time in Lahaina for example). It's not a full day commitment like Hana which is part of the draw for me at least. Any good breakfast and/or lunch spots along the way? Not that I know of off hand. There's not much of anything past Kaanapali as I recall. If you have a soft-sided cooler, it might be useful to pack a lunch. Any bathrooms along the road? No, not really. See last answer. What's not to miss on this road? For me the Olivine Pools were really something amazing. It's a difficult climb down, but it was worth it. There were only like three other people there and it was an amazing spot. It might get hairy if the surf is really cranking, but I'm not sure. There's a few swimmable pools, a blow hole and scenery overload ... Have you done this "forbidden" highway with your rental car? I did it in a Dodge Magnum rental. No problem, but be alert, patient and cautious while driving and be careful on some of the pullouts ... some have large drops from the pavement to the dirt that can bottom out a regular car and play havoc with the underside of the vehicle.
