icemaiden2310 Posted September 6, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2007 Martial law reimposed in Fiji Print Email Australian Broadcasting Corporation Broadcast: 06/09/2007 Reporter: Leigh Sales Fijian military coup leader Frank Bainimarama has imposed a new state of emergency in the South Pacific island nation to silence the man he ousted from power, former prime minister Laisenia Qarase. Transcript LEIGH SALES: Fiji is facing yet another political crisis with the provisional government re-imposing martial law this afternoon. The interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, claims the measure is necessary to prevent former prime minister Laisenia Qarase from inciting trouble and trying to destabilise the country. As head of the military, Commodore Bainimarama deposed Mr Qarase in a coup last December. Mr Qarase returned to the Fijian capital, Suva, last week after eight months of exile on his home island. The former prime minister says he's done nothing wrong and won't be intimidated I wonder if there is an Itinery cahnge coming up

sailawaysally Posted September 7, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2007 I've got a nephew being married in Fiji later this month, so hopefully it's nothing too drastic. We were meeting friends there on our Dawn cruise but if we have to miss it I don't think too many on the ship will be disappointed from what I've heard. Our friends live 45 minutes away so not really in Suva and I haven't heard anything from them about it so far.
