Wennfred Posted September 16, 2007 #26 Share Posted September 16, 2007 I use a Garmin Foretrex 201 and a Garmin GPSmap 76c for Hiking and Sailing, you can strap the Foretrex 201 to you wrist. If you are ever in the woods or out in the middle of the ocean alone, its good to have one. The Hikers, make sure you get the Foretrex 101 because its battery operated, the 201 is rechargable only. Wennfred Posted September 16, 2007 #27 Share Posted September 16, 2007 For those interested in GeoCaching, go to this website: http://www.geocaching.com/ This website can show you items you can look for locally in your home town. Its a fun thing to do with your kids on one saturday morning. This is a high tech way to scavanger hunt. You can do a search for Cruise GeoCaching, so when you are in a port you can go hunt for something in that port. Normally its box you find hidden but the GPS can take you right too it, you open this box, sign a log and put something into it, you can remove something if you like. Cruise Caching: Cruise Caching is simply geocaching while on a cruise. A cruise ship typically visits 1 or more port for a few hours, or some times a couple of days. When a cruise ship makes a "port call" this is a great opportunity to go ashore and find some geocaches. Nearly every port visited by a cruise ship has a geocache somewhere nearby, and some ports have many. GeoCaching from a cruise ship, or Cruise Caching, is a great way to create your own shore excursion. http://www.geocachingcruises.com/PortsOfCallInfo.htm Fred
cpprinttom Posted September 30, 2007 #28 Share Posted September 30, 2007 Here is a pic of my Garmin GPS on a flight from Cleveland to Orlando. 530 mph, and if you zoomed out you could see what cities and lakes you were flying over!! Kind of cool, always wonder where you were when flying now you can see. Click to enlarge
