boatdrinx Posted September 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2007 We will be travelling to New Orleans on a Friday in November, arriving in the early evening. Our cruise leaves the next morning. Our travel day will be my sons 11th birthday. Do you have any suggestions where we can take him that will supply him with a fun and memorable birthday? I don't want to go to a chain restaurant. Thanks for your help in advance.
jgmpuma Posted September 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2007 I can't think of any place that would be really memorable for an eleven year old. There are lots of good restaurants here, but unless he is a real foodie, he wouldn't be overly impressed. This place http://www.mulates.com has pretty good food and live Cajun music. It can be a lot of fun if there is a crowd, and they get into dancing.
selucrey Posted September 18, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2007 He might like the Mardi Gras museum at the Presbytere next to the St Louis Cathedral http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/mgras/mardigras.htm You could take him on a carriage ride through The French Quarter http://www.experienceneworleans.com/neworleanskids/carriagerides.html I know you don't want a chain but my Daughter (15) and her friends love Margaritaville for food. http://www.margaritaville.com/index.php?page=cafe_no He also might like a ride on the steamboat Natchez http://www.margaritaville.com/index.php?page=cafe_no Maybe a visit to the Louisiana Children's Museum http://www.lcm.org/ Then there is the Aquarium and the Zoo and the IMAX and...and... Hope this helps.
boatdrinx Posted September 19, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted September 19, 2007 Thank you both for your ideas. Margaritaville is a great suggestion. Although a chain, we don't have them here in California and we've been before at other vacation destinations and always have had fun. You can never go wrong with a carriage ride, either. I can hardly wait for November!
