Adventure Ocean ages

How strict are the age limits for adventure ocean?

We have an 8 year old who will be 8 years +11 months when we are on the GOS next year. He has an older sister who will be in the Voyagers and he'll be keen to be with her. Will he be able to go to the Voyagers (9-11 yo) rather than the Explorers (6-8 yo)?

They are usually strict, especially the first visit. The best you can usually hope for is that he will be required to be in the correct group for a day and they will evaluate him and decide if it is appropriate to move him up. The separation might be a good idea and he will make new friends.

We figured, since they asked the kids age on the consent form, it would be OK to "round-up."

Of course, they did have the kids ages and politely pointed out that we needed to correct the form (off by 6 weeks). Kids were fine in the right age group - groups were merged for parties and such, so it was really not a big deal.

Well usually they are strict but there are exceptions. You say your son will be 8 yrs 11 months. You can go to the orientation and tell them that he will be turning 9 "in a few weeks" and can they put him in the group with his sister on a TRIAL basis? They do a 24 hour trial basis.

Just ask NICELY. I tell everyone that because I once witnessed a mom demanding that her 3 year old needed to be with her 11 year old. When the counselors refused and after much yelling from the mom she stormed off with the kids (who were crying at this point).

If the groups are overfilled, they may not allow it. So just prepare your son now. Tell him he will make his own friends and have his own fun activities.

And you can show him some of those actitivities by going here...

Thanks for the help so far. We sail on 12 April and his 9th birthday is 1 May. He's independent enough to make his own friends and doesn't need to be with his big sister but he will be jealous if she's doing more interesting "big kid" things!
